He's shown faith in him in a number of high profile games, didn't he make his debut against Liverpool?

Excellent news for him. Scored again for England youth the other day as well. The lad is going from strength to strength. Hope we have a good sell on clause.....

Rumours that Everton are looking at Harry Maguire. If we have or haven't got a sell-on clause, we won't hear about it.

I think Maguire certainly needs a move to a bigger club. Scandalous that he didn't make the England squad but surely will if he's at a club such as Everton.

He's been shite. Time to stop cap-doffing to Everton players. Their captain was garbage too.

Would have struggled to start a dozen games for us this season.

3rd time I've watched him play for Everton and has had about a combined 5 touches. Strange that Koeman keeps playing him. He should go on loan to a Championship team next season, see how he does.

Like us?

Great bit of business by wilder, barely looks championship level

Thought he looked really poor and out of his depth as did the other kids Pennington and Holgate. Everton were awful and as others said even 'stars' like Lukaku and Barkley were poor. Thought Jags was their best player and only one who seemed to care.

Back to DCL. I saw a fair bit of him at academy, reserve and first team and saw nothing to suggest he would ever make it even at lower level. It was bewildering decision for Everton to sign him and whenever I have seen him for Everton he looks woefully out of his depth. I think he only touched the ball maybe a couple of times and looked slow, ungaily and weak. Great bit of business by United.

I didn't realise he was playing until he came off as a sub. How Mirallas can't get a place in the team instead of DCL at this stage of his career is beyond me.

Years are certainly catching up with Jaggy.

There once was a time he could keep up with Thierry Henry. Looked like he was running in quicksand at times today.

With due acknowledgement to Roy, this - from Everton fans on one of their forums - is interesting. It's a cross-section of comments posted on Saturday afternoon, immediately after the Liverpool game had finished:

-Not seen anything from him to suggest he should be in the team tbh. Or even the squad.

-Nowhere near the level Davies is. Squad player? Fair enough but you can't be having him start in a derby.

-Hard for this not to sound knee jerk, but I haven't seen anything at all from him to suggest he should be starting? I thought the same after his previous appearances btw

-Meh

-Yeah he really should be doing loads more with all the amazing creativity and great chances we supplied on a consistent basis

-He may have a good future but unless he's a genuine wonder kid then he's not going to be good enough to start for a team hoping to beat top 6 opposition.

-No idea what Koeman sees in this kid, offers absolutely nothing other than sideways pass. Not the worst player out there today but Christ, why does he keep using him in these big games over Lookman?

-Said in the match day thread the lad is too raw still, would benefit a loan in the championship as he still doesn't look fully in control of his frame. Has moments of good link up and don't really fault the lad for today he's just not ready for this level yet.

-Put more effort in and showed more technique than Lukaku. That's not me defending his position in the team, it just shows how bang average Lukaku was today.

-Decent size....
Apart from that I'm not sure what I'm meant to be seeing.

be 2 years before he makes a real impact
Everton were well beaten , looked way off Liverpool, Everton got players out that forced him to play him as a risk , which didnt work

I wouldnt write the kid off just yet....

Everyone said the same about Maguire when he went to Hull & dropped off the face of the earth & look at him now.

He needs a full season at Championship level & I think he will get loaned next year to a mid table Champ club.

If we make it... Should we take him? My answer would be no. I would be more interested in getting players who are tried & tested at that level.

To be fair, he might still be able to keep up with Thierry Henry…

Couldn't give a fuck about "the lad" to be honest. I don't do trite, false paternalistic platitudes.
