Callum O’Hare

I think the Portsmouth game showed us how important O'Hare is to the team.
Perhaps harsh, but if he could finish, he'd get my MOTM. Should have scored when Hamer put him through but dithered and didn't even make any contact then Clarke put him in and he snatched at it.
Peck was my MOTM.

Fantastic asset to have. His energy levels are what drives us on but it's that, coupled with his technical ability and reading of the game that pressures oppo players into rushing, making mistakes and encouraging our other attacking players to join in and try the special/unexpected. Brilliant.
Also amazes me on all the headers he manages to win against so much taller opponents.

Football is simple sometimes.

On Saturday, we had a 40 yard gap between Souza/Hamza and our 4 forwards and Pompey dominated that space, making us completely over ran.

Tonight, we had O'Hare occupying that space, running his bollocks off and linking everything up.

Don't want to downplay Pecks role tonight either in that assessment, he was absolutely phenomenal.

He has to improved tremendously. He was always tenacious but now he’s added much more quality on the ball and showed consistency across the 90. He has absolutely torn up any criticism of mine and made me eat it. Got nothing but respect for that and happy that he’s playing far better.

Still not totally convinced by him.
He's been frustrating in games more often than impressive but definitely adds something to the team.
Last night was one of the games where he showed that he can be a real asset to us with his energy and drive to put pressure on their players to force them into rushed passes and turn over possession.
He has obvious ability but needs to improve in areas such as his finishing and final ball. This has let him down quite a few times this season where a more accomplished finisher would have at least another 6 or 7 goals to his name.
If he can put in regular performances like yesterday then I will be happy.

I was going to say the same, he’s had a great season but the end product is what lets him down at times.

If he added more goals to his game he’d probably be playing regularly in the Prem.
Agree too. He just holds onto the ball a second too long, too often. The first goal being a good example.

O Hare outstanding last night- people on here actually unconvinced- 'are you blind?' . The difference between Saturday and last night was chalk and cheese and it was him that made the difference. Hounding and hounding - basically one of the best pressers of a ball you will ever see. UNDROPPABLE.

As I've said before he's a very good player who's workrate is amazing, never let's up from start to finish, he must be knackered at the end of games

its all about opinions. Mine differs slightly to yours. Credit where it is due, he has bundles of energy and chases down the defence all game, however he frustrates me, and others that I talk to, in equal measure with his decision making, final ball and finishing. This is all something that can be worked on to improve him but at the moment is what lets him down and is the reason he is playing in the championship and seemingly didnt get the big offers from the prem that many thought when he became available on a free. If he can work on the above, then he is a prem player in the making.
Maybe I'm blind but I am still not totally convinced. Yes he made a difference to the performance from Saturday but so did Peck, who was my standout performer. At the weekend, we had 2 sitting/defensive midfielders in Vini Souza and Choudhury which left a huge gap between them and the attackers. Peck filled that gap and was our most influential player IMHO.
JRS also made a big difference and we had a better shape about us.

It didn't look like he had full control of the ball for the first goal,or he was in two minds what he wanted to do and did neither.

He's a professional ****houser. Most times he holds on too long it's because he's trying to draw a foul. He could've shot in the build up to Rak-Sakyi's goal but held on knowing that the defender would plough through him from behind, which he inevitably did. If Rak-Sakyi didn't score then it was a penalty. He doesn't dive but he knows how to win us free kicks. Sometimes I do wish he'd pass or shoot more but he's very good at drawing fouls by slowing down or changing direction to invite contact.

Not everything he tries to do comes off but that is way better than the team of Saturday that never tried anything.

A very clever footballer - always has an awareness of whats around him and where opposition players are going. Not sure why he didnt shoot when JRS scored but the CB was on him quick and his run was what I'd expect Cannon to be doing. Hamer also has much better influence when O'Hare is on the pitch to link up with (JRS too for that matter). A key cog for us and hopefully keeps his spot for the remainder of the season

Most important player for us after Hamer and Cooper. Nobody like O'Hare in our squad. The rest of our squad now has a direct replacement for each other apart from those 3. All the great football we played yesterday stemmed from Hamer and O'Hare setting the pace of our play and linking up.

You've got a lot of confidence in the referee blowing for a penalty if Rak-Sakyi hadn't scored!

Why not just score yourself when there's an excellent chance, instead of drawing a foul for a penalty that may, or may not be given and we may, or may not score?

His workrate, as displayed last night, makes it incredibly difficult to drop him. The amount of graft he puts in off the ball, must be one of, if not the best in the league (if there is anyway to quantify "graft" via stats anyway).

However, I am greatly frustrated by what he does when in possession.

He is so often like a deer, frozen in the headlights. Had an absolute sitter of a chance last night, and couldn't even get a shot on goal. If it wasn't for their keeper and defender making a complete mess of things, JRS wouldn't have been able to bail him out of that one.

He too frequently takes too many touches, seemingly wanting to find the perfect pass, perfect shot, or whatever, when he would be far better served going on instinct.

If we can drill a level of urgency into him while in possession, equivalent to that he shows when chasing defenders down and forcing mistakes, we'll have an absolutely undroppable talent. But for now, he is still a bit of a question mark for me.

His little tricks and flicks are superb usually takes players out of the game by just diverting the ball a few feet to bring others into great positions. Also his athletism is way above anyone else as others have said our duracell bunny

Anyone who can't see that Ohare is one of our most important players, doesn't appreciate that football teams need balance and he offers so much. (I originally typed doesnt understand football l but didn't want Ohare haters coming for me).

He's our most consistent presser and is involved absolutely all over the pitch. Go check his stats for recoveries, touches, passes, tackles won, chances created and touches in the opposition box. He ranks as one of the best players in the division in his position in all the above. We'd need two players to replace what he currently brings to the side.

I recall a post (sorry, can't recall who) quite early on in COH's signing where a poster was indignant about the way O'Hare spoke.

O'Hare's use of current yoof vernacular convinced the poster that we'd made a disastrous signing, an altogether strange and
incorrect approach to who we should or shouldn't recruit. There's such a thing as football intelligence, we've seen it a thousand times,
where a player's grasp of his playing environment enables him to add so much to a team's performance.

I hope the poster in question has accepted that on current form COH is a shoo-in to play week in week out.

I was really excited by this signing and he had a great pre-season.
I was then disappointed with him for the first part of this season but now...

Sheffield United with COH > Sheffield United without COH
