Need to share this Blades experience.

A couple of weeks ago, me and the wife were getting essential supplies of Thatchers At the Co-op in the Bristol suburb of Westbury-on-Trym.

Across the High Street, I spotted a bloke getting out of his car wearing this years home shirt.

I Immediately bellowed out ‘Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah!’

He looked up, pointed at me and shouted ‘Eeza Blade and Eeza Blade’

We both then went on our separate ways.

My wife looked sideways at me pityingly and muttered under her breath, ‘Twat’.

I am 66.

I’m often in that area (wasn’t me though, I don’t tend to leave the house wearing football shirts).

Excellent, reading that made me laugh out loud.😂

I had a similar experience last week but with a totally different outcome. I was out on the bike and I'd stopped for a break in the village of Whitwell in North Derbyshire.
A bloke walked past with a Blades shirt on and I gave him the necessary 'Up the Blades' shout. His response was 'I'm actually a Leeds fan'.
Nowt as strange as folk.

Leeds are desperate for success

Reminds me of something that happened to me a while ago. I was cycling on the Chesterfield canal towpath just outside Retford last summer when I saw a little boy on his bicycle in a Blades shirt, he was maybe 6 or 7 years old and accompanied by a much older man, presumably his Grandad. As I cycled past I smiled at the little boy and said, "Up the Blades" and his Grandad replied, "yeah...right up 'em!".

Hi Klanger. I trust you enjoyed the Thatchers!......It was me in Westbury-on-Trym. It must have made quite a difference to see a blades shirt instead of the usual Manure and Liverpool ones that people seem to think are fine to wear down here (Never do I see a City or Rovers shirt). I hope you are keeping well.....Oh yes.......I hope your wife wasn't calling me a "twat" ;)

Do you want the name of a good divorce lawyer?

Probably depends on whether she knows what your avatar is...

Some people have no sense of importance !

Which could also have been his sister!!!!??
That would be Creswell. I once saw a girl there who had her face tatooed to look like a skeleton. Apologies if its anyone on here's sister/girlfriend but she was one freaky looking bitch.

Whitwell isn't too bad. Now Crsewell on the other hand. I once saw a girl there who had her face tattooed to look like a skeleton. Apologies if its anyone on here's sister/girlfriend but she was one freaky looking bitch.

Hi Peter,

Yes you do know me, I’m Geoff, one of the Bristol Thompson Blades, we used to drink in the Earl of Arundel before the game, probably 20 years ago now.

Hope you are safe and well

Geoff

There's a group who've been donning super hero outfits and running round Sale during the lockdown to keep little kids entertained. Me and my lads crossed paths with them today on our daily wander down to the field for a kickabout, my youngest in a Blades kit, when Captain America shouts out, "Eh I'm a Blade an all!" in one of life's more surreal moments!

Magnificent.

And all the better for reading like an introductory statement to a gathering of ne'er-do-wells embarking on a 12-step programme.

Great stuff.

South Sea Blade!
It was indeed good to see you, you were certainly not the focus of my wifes ridicule, she cannot get her head round the fact that it’s ok for me to engage with complete strangers sporting Blades apparel wherever in the world we may be.

You got off lightly, 20 years ago I would have cornered you and you would have been having a beer with me in the POT and playing football for the Bristol Blades next Sunday.

I’ll catch you next time.

Does your name relate at all to The South Sea Hotel in Broomhill?

Regards

I used to go to Westbury for work many years ago and loved it, indeed I worked and lived in Bristol for 2 years and loved that as well. I lived in Brislington (?). Used to go in the Kings Head there! wow that seems a lifetime ago! UTB

Hi Geoff,

Yes we are safe and well, thanks. Hope the same is with you all. Do you still tell everyone that you once scored a goal like the below?

Whitwell, Creswell and Clowne, the other "Bermuda Triangle"!!

Hmm!🤔

It's not quite like being in the Freemason's is it, being a Blade?

That's my ex-bird you're talking about! And it isn't a tattoo. She doesn't have any tattoos that high up. It's her exoskeleton. Those are real bones on the outside -she can't help it that she was born inside out - it affects a lot of folks in that area. Have you never heard of "Creswell Crags" ? - there's lots of them around there - she's one of them. What I mean by that is, in common with many folk in that little corner of North East Derbyshire, she is descended from Neanderthal man. They are simple folk, good at making tools and boy do they like to rumble. 😃

I grew up not far from there. My first ever competitive game of football was playing for the junior school team at Creswell. I still remember it when I drive through there - the football ground is still there. I don't think Creswell has much to commend it, but it is the gateway to much nicer places, like Welbeck, Cuckney and Clumber Park. As a kid I'd cycle out that way regularly - and in October time, a cycle trip to Welbeck was customary to harvest some chestnuts. There's a small forest about a mile beyond the Greendale Oak pub, which has an abundance of chestnut trees and it was a great place to "go nutting". I hear that some couples go nutting there all year round.🤔

I found myself in Whitwell a few months ago. I obviously must have been lost as there was no real reason to go there. In fact, I think I was passing through on my way back from Clumber Park, on our way to a little country pub called The Elm Tree at Elmton, for lunch. I had a little walk round. It wasn't too bad to be fair. Some nice properties and seemed a bit more "well to do" than poor lickle Creswell. But I can't imagine living in a place like that. You are so far away from access to a decent range of shops and facilities.

As for Clowne - well now we are talking "metropolis". It's a big place is Clowne, compared to the other two. Ugly with it as well. I went last year to have a neb at a little microbrewery called "Heist Craft". Aye. NBFD - Not Bad For Derbyshire, but I've not been tempted to return. There's been a lot of new stuff gone up in Clowne in the past few years. A big new Tesco superstore and a Wilko's dominate the centre. The long-standing, "Fred's Cafe" has been turned into an Indian take-away. Such is the progress made here in the little village that always had a good local football team when I was a kid - and in more recent years, produced a fine player called Matty Lowton.

Ahh....Creswell, Whitwell, Clowne. The St Kitts, Nevis and Antigua of North East Derbyshire. It's always surprised me that Kuoni don't have them in their travel brochure.🤔
