4-0.... You can't give the excuse that it's only a friendly and go out and get walked over by a league 2 side. Pretty embarrassing.

Lol wished i never bothered.. Took the exit at half time! The bar maid at the pub down the road was more entertaining!! ;) mind, that butler's not one to shout about either if hes harrys replacement! Clumsy foul in the first half, defos a pen too!!

Surely you're not writing Butler off after seeing him for a mere 45mins? and aren't these matches used primarily for players to regain there match sharpness? Give him a fudging chance.

First half very slow and poor, only JCR and Murphy showed anything, Defence of Davies, Collins, Butler and some little lad I didn't know looked hopeless and got pulled all over the place by a Burton attack orchestrated by Stuart Beavon, I'd be interested to know how much, if anything, Burton paid for Beavon he is about 10 times as effective as our Mr Porter. Second half much better, liked the look of Alcock and McGahey, had no idea who the blond right sided midfielder was but he looked OK, Baxter looked full of running!. Scoogal played wide left which didn't really work Diego looks a talent but he needs to link up a bit better. We should have won the second half but caught out by a right wing break. On today's showing we should keep George Long and let Howard go out on loan. Not bothered by the result, we clearly have some talent and I have no doubt Clough will sort them out by the time we play Bristol City,

Season long loan

I wouldn't write him off, he looks a big strong lad but he was well off the pace today, but he wasn't alone in the first half.

Here's my opinion from todays game.....

1st half team - zero effort - really don't known why they bothered.

Why resign porter when the Burton no 9 is so good.
Who played well? no one
Who was half decent - considering it was a friendly? no one - sorry, but that's just an opinion on what was on show. One or two tried hard, but when the rest do not, what's the point?
If that is our staring central defenders then it's very worrying to see. Collins played right - absolutely skinned for goal no 2 - absolutely no excuse for poor defending - friendly or not. A defo penalty to Burton, not given.

2nf half team - much better.

Baxter looks as though he has lost 2 stone, and better, quicker for it.
Digiralamo was a bright spark all the time.
Alcock looks ok - sure to start at RB.
Mcgahey at CH looks like a shoe in compared to the two 1st half incumbents.

If you think Basham is a holding midfield player who will challenge Doyle then forget it - he gets forward and makes late runs into the box.

We created very little in midfield.
We have to hope Mcnulty is half decent, as I just can't understand why we RESIGNED Porter when there are players like Burton's no 9 about.
All Burton had to do is what all teams have done to us in the past 3 years - close us down and we don't like it at all.

The no 23 for burton is going to terrorise defenders with his pace - exactly what we lack and he just ran at us and created the 4th goal.

Ok, so it was a friendly, but the performance was shocking considering we had more fans in the crowd - that's about 1,200 who went down - what a waste some will say.

Overall - you can bleat on about it being a friendly all you like - dismal day watching the R&W Wizards, and good luck to NC and the coaching staff - they have their work cut out to blend all that together.

PS: when does Chedwin come out?

That's the one thing I can criticise Clough for. That's his insane loyalty to Porter no matter what wages we are paying. There are simply better options and we saw one today. I know it's nice to have an old face around but FFS there are times you need to get real and face facts.

So no-one likes to see us lose 4-0, but a part of me quite likes that this has happened at the start of our pre-season fixtures. Kick up the arse for anyone getting complacent or resting on their laurels, no-one can be confident of their place on the 9th of August based on today. Better for your pre-season to be a wake up call and drive you to push harder than it to be a stroll in the park...

Just my opinion, I admit I won't be happy if we play like that in the rest of pre-season.

I agree as well.

I think they just thought they had to show up & they would continue were they left off.

A rude awakening for some!!

Promotion is NOT a given & im sure Clough will have mentioned this to the players at full time.

PS looks like Diego was lively when he came on. Thats good news & gives us more options up front if he progresses.

Well said. What i can't believe is we have fans who actually stick up for Porter left right and centre, yet we have a player in Diego who's alot more willing and as soon as someone mentions him on here they go on the attack using the fancy name and attitude bullshit excuses.

I'm not having this top goalscorer last season shit with Porter,my 5 year old daughter could have scored most of them and quite frankly he's not fit to lace her boots(not that she's got any)but you get my point.
