Well the only thing i see that's clear is you living up to your avatar name. hehehe.

;)

I can’t like Burton when negative Nigel is there. I don’t dislike them, but completely ‘meh’ about them. When Crewe were in the Championship I was quite fond of them due to their incredible development of young players. Similarly liked Stockport for being so close to the Manchester clubs but punching above their weight and making a decent racket. Burton don’t do much for me I’m afraid.

Tranmere used to play home games on a Friday night for a similar reason. Though I think they did it to attract a few Liverpool/Everton fans in, who would not attend a Saturday game.

Stockport did this too, to combat always being at home when one of the Manchester clubs was ("Friday Night is County Night").

And until the early 1990s Port Vale's midweek games were on Mondays. Our 3-3 draw there in the 1988-9 promotion season was on a Monday.

And Torquay's home games were often on Saturday nights kicking off at 7.30pm.

Fair enough Rodley, each to their own i guess. I know people involved at Burton and can't help but have a quiet admiration for their achievements. They aren't a million miles away from what we are about, culture wise. As for Nigel Clough, I quite like the bloke and never have understood any negativity towards him from our lot.

Wasn't there a non-league team in east London who played on Friday nights because they lost a lot of their support when Wet Sham were playing at home?
I think Leyton Orient did.

It's because he was exactly like Blackwell. No pressure... Good football and attacking style with goals.

Second season (and third for Blackie)... The fear of losing set in... Play for a minimum point style of football. Boring beyond belief.

That's the stage Carlos is at now

Agreed re Clough. Not our best manager but certainly not our worst. Turned the side round when he came in and gave us two cup semi finals. Didn't like some of the negative football at times and should have recruited far better in his 2nd season but I certainly don't dislike him or think he was complete disaster.

Suppose Wilder has set the bar ridiculously high when we look back at previous managers.

He has. Clough isn't a bad manager, what he's done with Burton proves that but he looks hopeless when compared with Wilder. He's made a difficult job look relatively straightforward

Yeah i get that Kuwaiti, but i still don't understand why he gets grief, he didn't do a bad job and some of our current players are at the Lane due to him.

Be funny when Duffy bosses the game against them won't it?

And anyone who can't understand why Clough is disliked by some didn't pay enough attention while he was here.

I paid lots of attention. I think it's more of a reflection on those that do the disliking. Controversial, maybe. True, definitely.

All it reflects on those who dislike him is that they have pride and standards.

I certainly paid attention and the following things stood out.

Setting low standards and expectations to suit himself, disrespecting fans and insulting their intelligence in the process. Remember when he told us we'd had a progressive season after the Swindon defeat and that it wasn't a failure?
Negativity and zero regard for entertainment.
Prioritising personal agendas at the expense of the team.
Negligent refusal to sort the centre back situation.
Reckless spending that damaged us significantly.
Lazy scouting.
Stubbornness.

I'm sure I've missed plenty of things out.

His approach to the job was insultingly wrong to anyone who has any pride and any sort of standards they expect the club to meet.

Consider that Wilder's approach is the correct one. Then consider how Clough's was the absolute opposite. Quite revealing isn't it?

Personally, i wouldn't make such comments of criticism without knowing the full facts. Each to their own i guess. Agree to disagree Ricky.

Rotherham experimented with Friday night fixtures back in the mid 80s as some genius had suggested that it was the Sheffield clubs playing on a Saturday that was effecting their attendances, (not the fact that they were shit and in division 4)

I know this because me and a school mate both aged around 14 decided to sneak off and see what this football on a Friday night was all about. So paying our 2p bus fares (2p!!!!) we caught the 69 bus, a hilariously numberd bus when you were 14, and set off to see Rotherham Vs Darlington.

The attendance wasn't really that boosted by the Friday night kick off as Darlington brought the grand sum of ONE supporter to the game who had the scrap yard end terrace at Millmoor to himself. Even better Darlington went on to win one nil.

Apparently the coach load of fans that Darlo were due to be sending got stuck behind a major accident on the A1 so never made it past Scotch Corner and the one fan who was there was a family member of one of the team who had travelled with them that morning, he went beserk when the final whistle went.

Me and my mate, a pig fan as it happened, found the whole thing very funny but agreed this Friday night football would never catch on....

Still makes me smile aged late 40s :)

I hear what your saying, but clearly they are massive dicks for moving the match.

I was at the game last night and asked the question about why they chose to play on a Friday evening, to one of the Burton Directors.

They play on Friday evening's because it is Nigel Clough's preference, though they have to seek permission from the opposition club. We agreed and that's how it works. Some clubs don't agree, particularly those with foreign managers apparently.

Well he does have to help out in the shop Saturday mornings...
