Robson meeting with McCabe delayed

Heavy fog grounded Robson's morning flight, so his meeting with Kevin McCabe and Terry Robinson will now take place this afternoon.

BBC Radio Sheffield understands the former England captain will learn his fate after a disappointing time in charge of the Blades that sees them languishing 16th in the Championship table. Someway short of the immediate return to the Premier League the club had expected.

We understand the board have considered several options including keeping Robson on at the club in a role away from the first team, bringing further support to his coaching staff, something the United manager last night said wouldn't happen.

However, the avenue the board are most likely to pursue, will be to relieve Robson of his first team duties, but offer a position in another role, possibly working with the club on their global business interests.

Already Kevin Blackwell, Chris Coleman, Paul Ince, Aidy Boothroyd, Billy Davies and fan's favourite Sam Alladyce have been linked with the job, but the one outsider who was believed to be watching United on Saturday former England manager Steve McClaren.

Speaking after last night's goalless draw at his former club West Brom Robson was confident he'd still be in charge of the club at the weekend.

"Well I would like to think so, the board and Mr McCabe have not said anything. We always had this meeting which was planned to talk about everything around the club, hopefully that's what we'll do.

"That's how I understand it, but like I say you can only ask Mr McCabe."

It's just been on Radio Sheffield that the meeting has taken place and BR is now back in Manchester.

Nothing particular to note from what Radio Sheffield had to say... just that there was going to be a "shake up of the footballing infrastructure". Whatever that means in English...?

fan's favourite sam alladyce?

Steve McClaren was believed to be watching United? He either was or wasn't, personally I hope he wasn't

I wouldn't mind seeing Big Sam in charge either.

(I crucially missed the n't off the end of wouldn't when I first posted this)

He gets my vote to be honest.

Even though, when fans are complaining about a lack of motivation from the current manager, Allardyce has previously said that he stays out of the dressing room prior to any match because the team captain and the players know what they have to do?

Wish I could remember where I heard it... was on a TV interview or something...

To be honest I don't see why a team would require much motivation from an external source. Surely the will to want to win is motivation in its self. I think it's more likely that a team would be unmotivated because they didn't like the way they were being made to play or because of that atmosphere in the dressing room.

i got this e mail last week?! Hi Brian

Gossip is that McCabe has been seen twice in a Sheffield hotel talking to Steve McClaren!

(Also, Bayern Munich are after Carney for £2m)

Hope its warmer there than it is here.

Cheers, Andy

Whether that is true or not, I still feel he is the right man for us. I’m not saying that my opinion is right or that my endorsement means anything; I just like what I see with Big Sam and I reckon he would not only get us promoted but would keep us in the prem.

I just doubt he would make the step down.

The fact it says a Sheffield hotel would make me wonder first of all.

As for Carney, I just can't see any truth in it at all.
