Brooks could change his mind again?

Henderson and Dier playing the defensive midfield duo role instead of Lampard and Gerrard who could actually do all the midfield job you’re supposed to like adding goals to your game, have a think of the dire straits we’re in at present as a country.

It's not 'dire straights' though, is it? The gormless twat chooses to play TWO defensive midfielders against giants of world football like Slovenia and Lithuania. It is this lack of ambition that will be his undoing.

Southgate's demeanour reminds me of Clough's 'You start with a point' bollocks.

Would Germany, Brazil, Spain, Argentina or France, all of who could actually win the WC, really start with two defensive midfielders against the minnows? I think not.

USA have failed to make it this time

and look at the money they invested in it
shows that teams like Serbia with no where near the clout of some can make it theres hope for everyone at every level

Southgate is to adventurous football to what Theresa May is at calling landslide victory elections

Yeah, they have, my point is for every Kane, there's a reliable journeyman type who most managers will generally pick ahead of a young prospect. There's no easy way to blood youngsters in but Germany seem to manage to pretty much replace the bulk of their team with youngsters every 10 years or so. We never seem to have a period where we say, OK, let's weed out the dead wood and build for the next world cup in 4 years time. Most recent managers have threatened to do it but then reverted to type.

We all know they'll be loads of changes in the forthcoming friendlies, such as Winks but he's next to no chance of making the squad for next Summer unless there's a few injuries.
What Germany did was very deliberate and part of a strategy following their 5-1 humiliation and something that the FA has studied in depth. One of the reasons Southgate got the job was for continuity from the U-21s and his willingness to use young players.

Almost all the senior players had played in the England youth teams. I think the average age of the squad is lower than it has been for years. I don't particularly rate Southgate but I'd suggest he's certainly trying to build a team for the future.

Brooks wouldn't fit into the England set-up. Where turgid possession-for-possession's-sake football rules the day he wouldn't last 5 minutes daring to dribble past players and showing a few tricks at the risk of losing the aforesaid possession. It's these fucking tactics which ruined Rooney's career as he was forced to conform at a very early age.

His job was to make sure we qualified, which he has. He's now switched to three at the back and claims he's going to play that way in the finals. Let's see if he does. He didn't even play two defensive CMs against Lithuania.

No it isn't. It was Fergie playing him out of position to accommodate Ronaldo and his drinking.

Yes that always looked a Herculean task against the giants of Lithuania, Malta, Slovenia and the Jocks.

Fair enough and I'm happy to wait and see but I'm not holding my breath.

He didn't even play two defensive CMs against Lithuania.

No he didn't and I shouldn't have said that. I couldn't even be arsed to watch it, after the borefest that was the Slovenia qualifying triumph.

We'll see and I hope you're right although recent performances have been as dire as I can remember. Southgate admitted that several players in the last squad wouldn't have been there if there hadn't been so many injuries and I suspect Winks would have been behind Lallana, Drinkwater and maybe Barkley which says it all really.

All of whom played at U18s and U19s, only Drinkwater not playing for the U21s.

I agree it wasn't a tough group, but McClaren had a group which we should have qualified from with an arguably better squad in 2008 and failed. No matter how simple the group should be you've still got to go out there and do it, just ask Chile, USA and Wales.

Southgate deserves a bit of praise for achieving the bare minimum of qualifying, he certainly doesn't deserve any criticism at this stage. At the moment it just seems that if we don't beat 95% of international teams by 3-0 or better it's been a poor performance. We aren't Germany, we're a top 16 team nothing more and that should be taken into account when watching England.

I agree it wasn't a tough group,

Well at least I'm not having a discussion with a drug addled drunk then.

Croatia were a million miles better than anyone in our group this time. That is not meant as a defence for Schteve, but more a reflection on the very weak group this time.

Fair enough and I agree with that.

Sorry, but he does IMO. The stultifying dull defensive football is alienating fans in their droves.
Still he looks good in a suit and says the right things, so I'm sure he will go a long way at the FA.

At the present time, anything is better than England because he'll not get any game time with our national team

That's cos he is utter shite compared to Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is far greater quality becuase he;
Earns a shit load more money
plays for a fashionable club
played for a fashionable club
came through the darling of the academies
has gone for mega bucks in transfer fees, twice.
doesn't start for his club in the all conquering Premiership
can't hit a cow's arse with a banjo.

Clear, now!

He’d be bonkers to choose a nation like England whose identity evolves around being dull as fuck and would hinder his progress as an attacking nemesis, they’d turn him into a reyt boring twat style wise and that would of course hinder his progression and us.

I say all this but Wales are hardly the galacticos and I suppose it shows why I show less interest in the national sides at present. There’s only Belgium and France sometimes who I enjoy watching, the rest is pretty dull to be honest.
Could have sworn that you have previously admitted that most of what you watch is Dutch?

Think he has nailed his colours to the Welsh flag now.

There’s an interview with Rob Page which explains it.

Basically Brooks said he’d chose Wales. He then got the chance of going to Toulon tournament. Wales allowed him with brooks giving his word he chose Wales.

Let's say if England were to actually look beyond the Prem for good up and coming players and call him up for a full international. Would he accept or reject?

If I were him I'd reject, England are absolute wank now.
