Not blaming him whatsoever however I felt as if he had maybe too much confidence on the ball.

As much as he is an extremely talented player, skins people and is a joy to watch - i thought last night he just had too much of the ball.

There was a counter attack chance, Brooks had the ball on the far right in our own half, 3 players came close to him. There was space for him to pass it into Carruthers who was only a few yards away and had space in front of him. Brooks then kept the ball and tried to take them all on and got tackled.

I would personally rather see us play the simple pass and the occasional showboat but i felt like last night was just constant efforts to showboat, and lost the ball plenty of times.

We said exactly the same thing. A great talent, but sometimes keeps hold of the ball too long. A pleasure to watch though.

Huge expectancy on his shoulders and he has to shoulder that and know when to make decisions. No doubting his tallent but he's got to get into the areas to make his talents count and let the rest of the team get him where his is most dangerous.

No complaints his tried so hard to make the chances but has to know when to give and move.

In a game at 0-0 i'd perhaps agree, but his instructions were clearly to play a free attacking role and go at them.

You know when we say "He's a young player who will learn".
He's with the right coaches who will point these things out in the right way if required.
Last night's game should be taken in isolation to a certain extent considering the Football discipline that went out if the window.

I agree!! He’s got loads of skill BUT he’s got to learn how to use it to benefit the team!!!!

I'd just like to say, I completely disagree.

Better decision making comes with time. You are right though he should have passed the ball. Especially as he was at the half way line and a risky place to lose the ball.

Correct decision making will come with experience

Young players, whether it be Brooks up front, or CCV at the back, all make mistakes. Experience usually brings consistency.

This is right, but they will only get that experience by doing what they did last night, unfortunately. You have to take both sides, and back them up to the hilt. Sometimes it comes off, sometimes it doesn't.

Yeah, let's knock that confidence out of him.

No room for individuality here...

His bravery with the ball is a big part of what makes him exceptional. Some people need to understand that a player who often runs with the ball and goes it alone can still be a team player. Because so few other players are willing to or capable of doing the same. Teams need players like these.

Thankfully Wilder and his staff will harness his individuality and not seek to mould him into a robot.

The worst decision from Brooks last night was giving away that free kick in added time. It cost us about 2 minutes.

i respect your opinion
I completely get your point, he frustrated me a bit last night too.
That said I am scared to death of us coaching the flair out of him, he's fearless and like a breath of fresh air, he will get more consisitant and reliable but right now he can't be contained, let him off the reigns a bit. I love to see young, fearless players express themselves but we have to except that they won't always make the right decisions.

not trying to knock his confidence, just trying to say that he should probably just try playing the easy pass where it is probably a better option than risk trying to take 3 people on. as much as we would all love to see him send all 3 of the players for a cornish pastie, the reality is that it probably wouldn't happen and the counter attack has been lost

Brooks - e certainly has a talent but compare him to their lad Ryan Sessegnon who is only 17.

His 50th game last night, though he is not normally 'that' good.

David Brooks is that type of player, exciting to watch, but can be frustrating, needs to be encouraged to keep on trying things, trying to make things happen, hurting the opposition, not in any way stifling his talent

Bang on. Look at George Long as an example of a young player with the confidence knocked out of him. Here's Brooks who comes on when United are under the pump, demands the ball and tries to take responsibility. So he'll lose it and make the odd bad decision - of course he will. So what? Get him back out there and tell him not to change a damn thing, because that trait that can sometimes be infuriating can also sometimes be the difference in a game - ala Leeds away.

Easy to say that in retrospect, I remember the move. Take that out of him & you only have half the player......its what makes him exciting to watch. Doesn't need criticism of that aspect of his game.

That’s his natural game it’s not showboating,
Most of the time he pulls it off.
I for one don’t want to see him curtailing his natural instinct because that’s what makes him special.
Where’s the dislike button?

That’s why Brooks is special.

He doesn’t conform to the norms you or the opposition expect.

I thought he did really well tbh!

I agree. The same people who will defend Brooks will slaughter Carruthers for losing the ball. There is a time for trying the Hollywood stuff and a time for bread and butter. It is those that make the correct decisions that get far in the game. Doesn't make you a bad person for pointing it out.

We have a bit of a problem with this team and I for one have to remain level headed though I feel like tearing my fast diminishing hair out. We have some young lads with little experience and we have to decide how much time we should give them. Carter Vickers has always been a bomb scare to me with "a rick in him", but if he doesn't fuck it up, I accept he is a very promising player worth his place. Risk or reward? Brooks is a luxury. He can't defend and he's a loose cannon, but he might get you something as long as you accept somebody has to pick up the pieces when he loses it and falls over looking for a foul. Carruthers is a very skilful player but has no idea when to stop being skilful. He needs to relax and use his skill in the final third rather than attempt to take four players on over 80 yards.

Going back to Brooks, don't coach anything out of him, just improve his long term vision and decision making. Unfortunately that will take time and experience. For now Wilder is playing his cards correctly.
