I thought tonight could easily go either way before kick off, and it felt like that kind of match once it started. We were desperately unlucky first half and it felt like we had the momentum for long periods. That sadly just seemed to fade towards the end of the game though once we made all our substitutions.

In football your efforts don't always reap your rewards and sometimes scorelines are settled by fine margins such as by a player with absolute quality. Villa had that today in Snodgrass and Bristol City similarly showed it in the final minutes with their freekick. Sometimes you do just need that bit of class in one or two players near the top of the pitch to make that difference and get you the three points. Snodgrass is a top 10 premier league player and he showed that against us yet again tonight.

Now Brookes is a Completely different player to Snodgrass but he has got the potential to change those games for us in the future. I know he hasn't always been great when he's started this season (Millwall, QPR etc.) but his return and development can only help us. I don't think we should get too downhearted with tonight's game, Villa are on a great run and are one of the better teams we've come up against. I don't think Leeds or Cardiff for example hold the same threat for promotion as them today.

I agree. We lack a real true match winner, brooks certainly fills that’s box

Certainly need him as another option upfront. I doubt villas gorillas at the back would have fancied him coming on

Personally think we have seen enough this season to show we are a very good Championship side but one that lacks the quality of the very best sides in the league. In no game this season have we nicked a match we didn't deserve like Villa and Bristol did against us. That's because we don't have enough players to swing games in our favour.

We aren't too far off but I think the top 6 is a step too far for this current squad. That's no slight on them though and they've been an absolute credit to the club all through the campaign. Just heard Wilder say we will now be written off but we still have a bit of life in us. We certainly aren't out of the play off race but I personally feel we are just short of what is needed to get a top 6 place.

Just need an opponent to show him nicely onto his left foot as well then we're sorted.

Spot on Roy, and no Shane in admitting it.

Snodgrass did fuck all until Stevens stepped aside for his free shot

Don’t underestimate overlapping run of Elmohamady - means Stevens can’t commit either way as he’s in two minds.

You never want to give anyone a free cross but you have to make these decisions sometimes. Snodgrass has the best left foot in the division and the very last thing he should have been allowed to do there is shoot. Clean shot = likely goal.

Spot on Roy,
As with the Pigs game we seem to lack the quality to unlock a defence. For me it’s one of the main differences between the Prem and Championship. Killer balls in around the final 3rd and finishing a high percentage of the chances made. This squad has done brilliantly but with Duffy seemingly out of favour and Coutts out I can’t see us bringing more than high energy to our games. Something to address in the summer if we are to push on to the next level.
That said, I’m still loving the ride for now
