Hello Blades fans...

Being a West Midlands based Bristol City fan, I thought I'd pass on some pretty important travel information for Saturday for you and your whippets.

The Highways agency are carrying out some work at the roundabout at junction 4 of the M5 (Bromsgrove, South Birmingham). They're attempting to relieve the volume of traffic that goes through it. This coming weekend they're putting in the new support struts.

On Friday 13th February at 2230hrs, they are closing the motorway at J4, so that all traffic must leave the motorway on the J4 slip road and rejoin using the entry slip. (essentially you cannot go under J4) You with me so far?

The main carriageway of the motorway will not reopen until 6am on Monday 16th February.

All M5 traffic will have to leave the carriageway and rejoin again at the other side of the junction, the is the case for the whole weekend. I cannot start to imagine the implications this will have on travel time.

You know when you see a motorway sign that says "Long delays"? iIsuspect this will need a "Very long delays" sign or maybe even the next category up - I've no idea what that might be, maybe "Mega delays"?

My advice to those of you that plan to drive would be to Take the M1 and A46, come by train, or just don't bother. Trust me, it will be horrendous.

Cheers for the number you did on Swindon for us. Horrible football club.

All the best in your hunt for the playoffs, but I'd really appreciate if if you wouldn't mind just rolling over on saturday.

Cheers

Thanks for this

Most Blades travelling by car will be coming down the M42 which, if memory serves, joins the M5 south of J4 so I would have thought would be OK if I am reading your warning correctly. Or do you mean the entry to the M5 from the M42 will be a problem ?

Probably not on the way down but if the M5 is jammed northbound you'll get stuck getting onto the M42 on your way back.

Possibly which means a diversion to Alcester then north to the M42 I reckon......don't you just love following the Blades away from home !!!1

I was down that way last week, m42 was snarled up so I went up the m6 and cut across at Stoke, bit of a ball ache, but at least you keep moving

Ahhhh right. You're correct. That way should be fine (although I image it will be overly busy because of the m5).

The way back won't be good. There isn't much space between j4a and j4. So it'll be snarled up too I suspect.
