I was under the impression that free kicks were meant to be taken from where the offence took place.

Fleck's foul was a yard inside our half and yet mysteriously, Mooy's free kick had somehow gravitated 10 yards further up the pitch.

Only if the offence is committed in and around the 18yd box it seems... Otherwise nobody gives a shit! Haha

Not sure it would have made much difference we just didn’t defend it well enough but I take your point and you’re right it was no where near the actual offence

I always get nervous when I see the other team move the ball forward once the ref has turned his back on the them.

We defended it like a Conference team so i think the position it was taken from is pretty irrelevant

Mooy was cheating all game with every decision and free kick and throw in by moving it 10 yards further forward - including this one. Weak premier refs allow it week in week out.
PS The award of the free kick itself looked iffy in real time to me. Saw it on MOTD after though and it looked a bit more like a foul.
Warnock would have kicked off about that goal - suspect Wilder's approach of not moaning about poor refereeing going against you is the right one.
I guess the incompetence even itself out over the season and we will benefit and you don't want to get a reputation like Warnock did as then ref's sub-consciously punish you.

If ever you have the misfortune to watch our 1993 FA Cup semi final highlights, you'll notice that Chris Waddle's freekick was taken at least 10 yards ahead of where the foul took place.

The thought about watching this on Youtube fleetingly crossed my mind until I realised I didn't fucking want to :D

Happens all the time, free kicks are routinely taken yards from the foul but woe betide a corner taker trying to sneak it 1mm outside the quadrant.

From what I've seen on tv many corners are taken outside, even if the lino is on that side

So it would have only flown past Kelly at 80 mph instead of 100 mph.

Kelly would have chested it down, sidestepped Paul Warhust and then sent through an exquisite diagonal through-ball to Franz Carr, who would have mis-hit it through Chris Woods' legs. Apart from that, everything else would have been identical, so we would have won 2-0.

I don’t buy that they have a lot of goal kicks but don’t score many from them , the nearer to goal the more dangerous they are. So the 10 yard he stole was important

Point was that in every game you see free kicks being routinely taken yards away from where they should be but fans go absolutely mental if an opponent tries to take a corner 1mm outside the quadrant.

1mm or 1ft has no significance but 10 meters or 10 yards does ,refs should be aware

We still should have defended it better though. I hate this victim mentality where it’s always someone else’s fault.
