Robinson isn't a centre back, neither is Stevens, Lowe or Norrington Davies they're all full backs. The only one of the current options in the absence of JOC thats played regularly as a centre back is Bryan and he's injured again. You just knew on Saturday that Brighton having not scored from a set piece this season would get one against us. Another free header not dealt with despite playing well it cost us just like Weeds at Home when Bamford was allowed time and space.
We are past the point of overlapping skills being required we just need someone who can defend including the skill of heading. EPL centre backs are all big, strong, aerially dominant and capable footballers. All the attributes of Jack that are so sadly missing from our squad. Bash isn't strong in the air so we are left with Egan to deal with set pieces. Thats one of the reasons Mcb keeps getting picked.
It really is a poor reflection of our recruitment policy that we have failed to produce adequate back ups for JOC and Bash. The decision not to use the spare loan to get in a LCB in the summer transfer window will cost us our place in the EPL. No matter how well we are playing its a weakness that is consistently costing us points and will not be resolved until we bring in a LCB that is left footed, 6 foot 2 plus, a centre half not a converted full back and can fuckin head a ball.
