Another frustrating day. Blades did enough to win the game.
Started really well , and possibly 20 to 25 mins before Milwall ha d owt like an attack.
crosses and shots coming from all areas for the Blades in this time.
Doyle had two shots that left their keeper scrambling and Bent another that keeper just kept out.
Yeates took a free kick and hit wall but hit the rebound really well and keeper saved well.
Quinn was constantly fouled by them and to his credit did not react and get wound up.
It really looked like they targeted him to get him to react.
Blades well on top at half time play wise without the lead.
the first 20 mins or so of second half were pretty much even although I always thought we had the greater threat.
Ched and Bent off for Boggy and Cresswell, and Blades started to dominate.
Ched did work well and most must have wondered why he was taken off. we have to remember he has bee ill.
Boggy picked up all the loose balls that Marcus Bent did not and it made all the difference. Crosses and runs towards their goal without total penetration were encouraging and we were finally rewarded with a pen. Boggy won it and Boggy took it and put it with total confidence in the corner of the net.
Blades looked more likely to get a second than Milwall to equalise.
Just before the 90 mins they had an attack and Simmo pulled off a fantastic save to concede a corner.
They took it and Simmo did his usual flap (probably still excited that he'd pulled off that great save), the ball fell to Lisbie I believe on the edge and in our nievity we dont defend that player and he scores. Same type of goal as the goals Norwich scored and we have to stop these.
We should have won (again) work rate is not in question but players have to recognise situations and where they should be at certain passages of play.
Players.
Marcus bent should not play at the moment. Boggy adds so much more varietyand should take his place.
Yeates, is still lightweight and does not seem capable of doing a recovery run although this was his best game for ages and ran a lot better at them which is what he should be doing.
Doyle, he has already had more shots than Britton and if this continues will suit our present situation far better than him.
Quinn. probably best player on pitch today and playing on the left was also quick to see oppotunity on the right.
Lowry, Not poor but not as solid as he has looked at other games.
Collins, started well and then nearly gave away a pen, judgement reserved although on today would much rather have him than nossy.
Monty, Three loose balls but very quick to support the attack and pick up most second balls. A really class crossfield ball to Boggy should have resulted in a better attack.
Cresswll, a lot better than recently, his commitment you cannot doubt- quality may be a different issue.
Parrino, seems to get more confident with each game and is looking good.
Jordan, Hard to judge today seemed ok?

simmo reminds me of Keith Waugh. Good shot stopper but weak at dealing with crosses. Bent looked "over the hill" and Yeates were poor. The centre backs took a lot more responsibilty than Kyle Bartley ever did. They got near to their man every time and were good in the air. I expect doyle to score a screamer or two in the new few games

Boggy made a massive difference and was very clever to win the pen. The booking for Quinns "dive" was nothing short of outrageous!
THought overall we just shaded it but Millwall did miss a couple of glorious chances with free headers. We can take positives from today, Yeates is not one of them. Bloody awful performance from him bar the last 5 mins.

If Yeates is a winger, then I'll show my arse in the club shop.He was appalling.

I'm trying to wrack my brains to think of decent wingers since the days of Colin Morris. I can only think of Alan Roberts and Paul Devlin and that's about it...

Start next game with boggy and ched - no room for creswell and bent. Did enough to win today, millwall showed very little.

I thought we were poor today. We played much better v Norwich & Leicester. The lack of pace in our team is unbe-fucking-lievable & we also look like conceding from every corner & cross. Only Boggy showed any urgency and it certainly looks like team spirit is poor. Thank goodness that the Pigs are even worse than us.

not sure how some people thought we were better than Millwall today, we never got going and we don't look like a team who will create chances nevermind score goals. I am guessing Millwall's budget is alot less than ours so I am sat here wondering how the can find young athletic players who can foot on the ball and we just have a team of squad players who should only get a chance because of injuries. Wednesday have been rotten at the core as a club for over 10 years now and we look like we have just taken over the baton

I thought Paul Ifill and Peter Ndlovu were both pretty good.

They aren't worse than us. At the moment they just happen to be playing in a lower division. A division in which we will struggle as from August this year.

They are worse than us. At least we have been beaten by some half decent sides - they have lost to some right shite. 6 at Exeter, 4 at Peterborough, 4 at Orient etc

For the record I think we were ok in parts, but essentially no better than that midfield will ever allow. But since we've no bugger else to chose from I can't see the value in whining at Adams.

and Peter Beagrie, Dane and Jock.

I liked Bryson. Always gave 100% and never let anyone down. But I didn't feel he had the same level of skill or flair as Ndlovu or Ifill (or Woodward and Morris!). Whitehouse was a good player, but I never viewed him as an out and out winger.

Wait till next season, then you will see just how bad we are. If we played them now we would lose.

I know how bad we are. I just think they are worse. You sound like a Pig fan.

Why? Because I have a different point of view than you?

Given the thrashings they're getting it's hard to make a case for them. At least we tend to lose narrowly. ;)

They have also handed out a few thrashings - one being a 3-0 win at Bristol City, where we lost by the same margin.

We are in a higher league at the moment and so for the time being can claim the 'higher ground'. But for all their recent poor form and being in a lower league, I honestly feel that they would probably beat us if we played them now. But of course the forum's 'politically' correct brigade don't allow you to have any form of sensible discussion involving Wednesday without throwing childish insults.

Spot on. Bizarre how some on here still want to big the Pigs up.

It's not a case of bigging them up. It's more a recognition of how poor we are. I have watched us for quite a few years now, and I am struggling to remember a poorer United side than this one. The side that got relegated to the fourth division was no poorer than this one IMHO.

Got to disagree with that one OB. Admittedly the form of this side is no better than the one that, in a weird quirk, were in a similar position to the one SWFC are in now. That was the worst Blades side I have ever seen, bereft of ideas, pace, skill and any quality; AND in a division below where we are now.

The weaknesses in that team are all too apparent in this one. As you have stated - a lack of pace, skill and quality.

The side that played Walsall on 2/5/81 was Conroy, Cutbush, Garner, Houston, MacPhail, Trusson, Matthews, Givens, Tibbott, Hatton and Ryan. Substitute - Neville. Notable absentee - Kenworthy. Had he played, we just might have scored that penalty!

Hey how often do us in the politically correct brigade get to be insulting? We're far too busy being do-gooders. :D

If we played Wendy tomorrow I think society would be crushed by the sheer weight of ineptidude on show. Welcome to Sheffield football.

It wouldn't be a classic, that's for sure! But if we were by some chance to win, noone would really care about that. Unfortunately though, that is an improbable event as in order to win you have to propel the ball into the opposition's goal. And that's something we're not very good at, no matter how poor the opposition is.;)

Cheers Boo. Your match report and the subsequent comments and discussion says 3 things to me:

- Boggy must start the next game (probably with Ched). I thought he was our best player at Ipswich and I always liked him in at Barnsley. I'd likle to see him and Ched given a chance together. Bent is clearly past it and ditto for Cressy.
- Simmo should be dropped. His bluders have cost us too many points this season. His lack of ability to command his area is making the defenders nervous and as a result we look like conceding at every set pieces. It is no conincidence that we keep conceding at set pieces.
- We should not panic. Yes we are poor (Adams knows this - his 'I can't fault the commitment .... It's just the ability that is in question says it all) but we are good enough to stay up. We have keep faith, have confidence and keep plugging away. Yes it is worrying that we are playing well and not winnng game, but at least we are playing well. Despite results, we have played teams higher in the table and matched them (or more). If we can keep the faith, keep our heads up and stop making stupid mistakes then we can turn this around. We are no worse than Palace, Bristol, Coventry and the rest so iot is in our hands.
