Brewster

It amazes me how there are so many examples of players.......who seem to hit fantastic form in the final year of their contract.

We had Ched Evans who was OK but under whelming most of his contract....then in his final year he's on fire
looking like the best player in league 1 and he even had the Welsh national squad showing interest.
If he hadn't gone to prison I doubt we'd have kept him because he was attracting interest from other clubs.

Also remember Raheem Sterling at Liverpool, in his final year he was brilliant...so his agent wanted a massive salary.
As soon as he's given an increased salary...his form drops.

More recently there's Marcus Rashford at Man Utd.
On a big contract and generally flatters to deceive.....then in his final year.....he's becomes one of the best strikers in world football.
His agent demands a massive salary, he's given it and since then his form has dropped off a cliff.

I'd be so angry if Brewster finally finds some great form right at the end of his contract....then demands big money again.
We've been loyal to him and shown him support......you would hope it would be appreciated and returned when the opportunity arises.
The last thing we should be doing is re-signing Brewster.

I'm not looking for an argument here, I'm just not sure how accurate your examples are.

Evans started banging them in because we dropped into L1 and were a superior team.

Sterling has essentially been brilliant every season until recently. He broke through at 17 for Liverpool I think and was certainly a starter at 18.

Rashford has had good spells and bad spells. He's a top player but it has seemed confidence and off pitch difficulties can impact him. If you took him to a slightly easier league he'd probably smash it every week though.

But he gets paid more than me, so he can't complain and deserves no sympathy.

Without a doubt some will "play the mental health card" but it is not exclusive to mental illness. No different to that mate down the Pub who hasn't worked for years because of his dodgy back but in reality he's just a lazy bastard.

Clearly you've never suffered with a back problem. The most debilitating thing you can have.

It would be kind of interesting to see how these polls both asking "is this a good bit of absurdly hypothetical business" would turn out:

  • City get the banhammer from their 115 charges, have to fire sale, Haaland declares his love for the Blades and we sign him for £10m on a three year deal
  • City get the banhammer from their 115 charges, have to fire sale, Haaland declares his love for the Blades and we sign him for £10m on a three year deal, only for Haaland to tear his ACL in his first training session and be out for the season, tear the other one in preseason the year after that, then finally start the first game of 2026/27 only for someone to break his legs 10 minutes into his debut

Actually having undergone traction for sciatica I know exactly how painful a genuine back injury can be. I was drawing a comparison between the previous posters suggestion that some people "fake" mental health issues to the fact that some people also "fake" having a bad back!

I've said it before, there's never been a Sheffield United player that I've wanted to succeed more, now more than ever.
His injury situation is extremely unfortunate and frustrating for the club, but also extremely frustrating for Rhian himself. Injuries like he has had are probably the most frustrating thing for a player to go through. It's painfully obvious that he wants to contribute to the team and make the fans happy. His mental resolve to keep on trying, keeping up the recovery when it would've been easy to quit is enviable.

I'm not sure we should give him a new contract unless he really shows us something different this season, but I'll always be a fan of his.

The only reason that you’d give a new contract is to protect the club, if he’s scoring and playing then it’s worth it. But that’s a big if

Very good read that, i hope all the best for brewster and believe he will come good, its something he deserves

I want Brewster to come good in the same way I want all Blades players to be good at the job they were brought into the club to do.

There are some people who are that invested in Brewster coming good that they exaggerate every move and touch he makes when on the pitch in some weird justification that “there’s a player in there”.

I want a bit more from a Blades player than just bounding about the pitch like a Labrador on speed. When you have to search for the odd 20 minute spell in a near 4 time span then it’s clear that people are clutching at straws. Yet I’m expected to blindly back him and not criticise because “he’s a nice lad”.

I’ll hopefully eat humble pie if/when he comes good, until then I’m a sceptic, if that makes me an idiot then so be it.

This is absolute rubbish. What we have done is honour the terms of the contract that we signed in good faith having made the offer to him, as we were legally obliged to do. Nothing more, nothing less. It’s not as if we had the option to stop paying him because of his injuries, and it isn’t his fault that he’s had the injuries.

A really really lovely article about the emotional and mental turmoil he has been through.

Definitely worth a read and hopefully all of us will continue to encourage and support him

You’re joking aren’t you? Some of our “fans” seem to be literally waiting for him to come on to criticise everything he does. Just look at this thread for all the negativity around him.

He’s not an untalented lump that we’re hoping can somehow find some game changing form, at this point he’s spent more time with the medical team than the players, through no fault of his own.

He’s coming back from multiple serious injuries, yet our fans expect him to be winning everything, scoring every chance, and putting in an elite performance every game. It’s not going to happen yet. KM doesn’t even do that.

Will it ever? Maybe not, but that’s a not a stick to beat him with. Some our fans however have sticks lined up ready for when he crosses the white line.

I don’t think many blades bear Brewster any malice - just that we are hugely disappointed the way his time here has panned out. At the time, Liverpool had a £40m buy back clause, their fans were gutted to see him leave. But for us, when fit and had a good run of games, he has looked completely out of his depth in the Championship, never mind in the Premier League. He was a massive gamble at £23 million and is still on huge wages. He will inevitably be on his way next summer when his contract is up. Where he ends up is anyone’s guess.

Andre Brooks (20-80 chance going up for a header) and Rhian (quick, cute and direct past) made that second goal. I think he’s got more of a football brain than some think and I really hope he does come good this year.

If we are playing on the counter attack Brewster should really thrive in this team. As always with him it will be down to fitness and I notice Wilder is not in a rush to give him more than sub appearances at the moment.

Just look at the lad. He is the fucking glue. Remember how Didzy scored fuck all, but people wanked all over him?

Well, I give you the brew. Just see how much he brings to the team. Anyone out there who has ever tried to create a high performance team at work, this is the attitude you strived for…

It’s the little things that are massive

Why is he still getting on the pitch!!!???

Campbell scored a hat trick for the under 21s the other day, 3 great finishes. He's clearly only playing because wilder wasted so much cash on him, surely wilder has to draw a line under it soon
