Ones that are suitable to us, heavily performance related

Wouldn't that be rewarding failure?

And what if the club gave him that contract and he didn't meet the targets and spent most of his time injured? The lad's had a few seasons now to prove his fitness and ability and shown little of either.

Sunk cost fallacy. We paid so much we might as well just in case he does finally come good. And if they gave him the contract and he doesnt hit performance related targets then simply he doesnt get paid as much.

Not my kind of gambling. I would cut our losses and let him go.

This charade with Brewster has gone on for so long now it's just funny.

The lad's honeymoon period expired literally years ago.

I kind of want us to keep him just to see how much longer he can continue to hoodwink people, he's like the Frank Abagnale Jr. of the footballing world.

Never has a Blades player before or since ever been afforded such grace or had so many excuses made in his defence after offering so little.

"It'll come"
"He's unlucky"
"He's jinxed"
"He's been unlucky with injuries"
"He's cursed"
"He can't catch a break"
"He just needs that one goal"
"He's a really nice lad"

Jesus fucking Christ.
2024/25 leading scorer ?

Ironically, Premier Sports commentators just said “McBurnie has been a bigger attacking threat than Mbappe tonight”

You couldn’t make this up.

But at least we’ve still got Dogshit Brewster.

Just to push back on one more shit criticism made with no thought whatsoever, the idea we should string up those who signed Brewster in the first place.

As though the signs were there before we signed him 🤣 . These are same people also signed Fleck, O'Connell, McGoldrick, Norwood etc., but because they got one wrong they must be cleansed from the club.

Id wager all them between them didn't cost have of the 30 odd million we have spunked on Mr nice guy so I get your point but this mistake will go down as the biggest in our history by some margin. At least with the South Stand we still have something that adds value.

Nothing I've said suggests this isn't the worst signing we've ever made, it probably is.

But by "worst", do we mean worst decision or worst outcome? I think we've made plenty of signings which, given the information available to help make the decision, seemed far worse than the one to sign Brewster.

Sorry, worse in terms of financially. I accept we have signed some dross over the years.

but you're not financially cutting your losses letting him go, although are doing is freeing up a space in the squad.

You'd continue to pay his full contract until he finds another club, they we should be able to negotiate a discount.
However this season Brewster could easily decide to stay at home, playing PlayStation, whilst collecting his £40,000 per week.

I dont think we have any choice but to keep him at the club and use him as sub....maybe when he scores...he'll come into some form.

I was one of the people who wanted us to sign Brewster. There were loads of us excited about it at the time. Of course I'm disappointed with how it's turned out. I'm sure he is too. I don't get the logic of saying pay him up or loan him out in the last year of his contract when we'll not get much of a contribution to his wages though. We are short of players up front as it is. He's going to be around for the season so we might as well get used to it and support the lad.

A really really lovely article about the emotional and mental turmoil he has been through.

Definitely worth a read and hopefully all of us will continue to encourage and support him

That was a good read, thanks for sharing.

It's so easy for football fans to forget about the person. To a lot of us, Brewster is a £20+million price tag, a highly rated young striker who hasn't delivered. We think about Sheffield United, not Rhian Brewster. However, we should all remember that he's a young man doing everything he can to deliver for us. Bad luck happens.

I really do hope he has an amazing season this year, no injuries just lets see him put all the effort and hardwork that is clearly there.

Whether that leads to a contract extension can then be judged in the same way as our other players, is he worth keeping.

Huge 4 months for Brewster. If we are competitive, (top 8) by January and he isn't contributing then if funds are made available for a push second half of the season i can see him going out on loan for the remainder.

Yeah read that this morning
Never wanted a player to hit form so much in all the years I've supported the Blades

Agree. I also think you can tell a lot about a Blade by the way they talk about Brewster.

If it lacks nuance and they simply describe him as "useless" etc. odds are, they're an idiot. I also can't stand the "if Brewster scores, we're on the pitch" chants.
It could be viewed as everyone willing him to score, but the undertone feels like it's mockery to me.

Imagine if he DOES have an amazing season.

You can just imagine talks breaking down because his agent is demanding a big salary wanting to remain as the top earner at the club, above what we can afford so he leaves on a free.

The fanbase have shown him support and loyalty so it will be interesting to see that once he starts rebuilding his reputation
then his much loyalty will he have towards our club?

Would be so typical if he refuses to sign for us for £15K a week + performance based bonuses,
then he chooses to sign for West Ham instead on 25K a week, to be their 5th choice striker....so he hardly ever plays.

'Imagine' is certainly doing a lot of heavy lifting there...

Might be wrong, but I would call him an expensive passenger, we just can't afford to carry him anymore. Either pay him up or loan him out.

We can't afford to pay him £35k/week or whatever he is on right now for the remainder of his deal, but we can afford to pay the same amount as a lump sum right now, plus whatever added interest we will accrue from being more in debt than what we would be otherwise. Makes perfect sense.

Sorry, I just read the article on a news feed and stu k it in Shoutbox, then saw this thread, so apologies!

But it's good to know that he's on the mend, and he's feeling better in himself!
Hopefully he stays fit now, and can help Moore out, as they both need to find the onion bag a few times this season!!

It amazes me how there are so many examples of players.......who seem to hit fantastic form in the final year of their contract.

We had Ched Evans who was OK but under whelming most of his contract....then in his final year he's on fire
looking like the best player in league 1 and he even had the Welsh national squad showing interest.
If he hadn't gone to prison I doubt we'd have kept him because he was attracting interest from other clubs.

Also remember Raheem Sterling at Liverpool, in his final year he was brilliant...so his agent wanted a massive salary.
As soon as he's given an increased salary...his form drops.

More recently there's Marcus Rashford at Man Utd.
On a big contract and generally flatters to deceive.....then in his final year.....he's becomes one of the best strikers in world football.
His agent demands a massive salary, he's given it and since then his form has dropped off a cliff.

I'd be so angry if Brewster finally finds some great form right at the end of his contract....then demands big money again.
We've been loyal to him and shown him support......you would hope it would be appreciated and returned when the opportunity arises.
