he was so unlucky with that shot that hit the crossbar still dont think its gonna happen for him here but i have got admiration in the way hes stuck at it and never given up think weve actually stumbled on to his worth to the squad now coming on as an impact sub

Regards a contract there are a few factors to consider:

Best position
Player ceiling…..what level could he reach?
Starter or impact sub

We bought him as a striker and he’s never convinced in that position.
Doesn’t make the runs like we see from Campbell and always lacks composure in front of goal.
He strikes a ball well, with power but only seems to score goals when he has no time to think.
However he is a good all round player with decent link play, so he’s able to play as attacking midfield.

In recent weeks Brewster has played quite well…a 7 out of 10. However that’s been his highest rating since being here.
We have players like Rak Sakyi and Brookes where this season they’ve been game winners 8 or 9
But in other games they’ve had stinkers, done nothing, with a 4 out of 10.
Altho overall Brooks and Rak Sakyi haven’t been great this season, they have both shown spells of being Premier standard, do their ceiling is high.
The best I’ve ever seen Brewster play is upper Champiomshio level but most of the time he suggests he could become an average Championship player.
Do we really want to sign a player who could become a consistent average Championship player?
If we’re promoted no, but if we’re still in the Championship we might keep him on much reduced terms.

Anyone noticed that his best recent performances have tended to be when he’s come on as sub.
So that’s so,etching to consider. A few weeks back it was a definite NO from me
But anymore performances like yesterday and I might move into the “offer him a new contract” group.
Think a lot depends on which division we’re in next season, our finances and what other options we have.
Agree with all of that. Only part I slightly disagree on is the level of Brooks and Rak saki, IMO neither are prem standard. As substitutes to get minutes against tired legs then maybe but still have a lot of development to go before then, ATM championship standard TBH. Unless you meant that. You're right though, if we go up, which is likely then we should be looking at better and him and others sadly will be phased out as we improve the quality of the group.

There isn't much he could have done????

Well he could have scored!!

But he didnt. Which was par for the course.

As one of his biggest critics on here, I thought he did well today.
I knew his fan boys would be out in force today though.
Maybe I’m stating the obvious here but aren’t we meant to be fan boys of the players of the team we are fans of???

He’s definitely carved out a little niche for himself coming on and giving us something a bit different. Good ball for the goal and unlucky with the shot, he could have maybe gone 5 yards closer and then shot but it was inches away from being a goal.
He is far better than just coming off the bench he just needs minutes under his belt

Brewster has never had the chance of playing week in week out when things were going well and as a striker.

The tactics have been more like 4-5-1 than 4-3-3 the stats will show that too.

He needa proper support alongside him and a run of games that is when we will see the best of him.

I’m still firmly of the opinion unless he scores upwards of 15 goals he’s on borrowed time until the end of the season when we can say goodbye. Some goals against the pigs would be nice.

The lad needs a bloody good psychologist more than anything, understandably lost a lot of his belief in himself given what he's been through...hence the snatching at shots and leaping into tackles.

New contract yes...1 year with an option...weighted in our favour

The people saying Brewster lacks composure & just hits shots as hard as he can at the keeper should refresh themselves by looking at the goals he scored for Swansea before he came here.
Five years ago!!!! You are asking us to judge him on ONE season he had FIVE years ago!
Get real.

Is Wilder picking a side based on salary and transfer fee? Does he sit in meetings with Alan Knill saying “tidy performance from Rhian but he didn’t quite perform as a £20 million striker so he can’t start the next game for me”. All that matters right now is his performance.
That’s not what I meant at all. If we’re assessing whether or not a player has been a success then the price that we paid for him does factor into that.

If a £20m+ player has managed to have a collective couple of months out of a five year contract playing even remotely well then that is the definition of an unsuccessful signing.

Obviously, I’d want all of our players to perform as well as possible; but if we look at how our record signing has performed throughout his career with us- to say he’s been underwhelming is being quite generous.

I am not asking you to do anything at all, it is my opinion, we don't always have to agree.

For five years he has suffered horrendously through more than one serious injury and repeatedly breaking down, and we don't know if that is down to being made of Weetabix or if he was forced to attempt a comeback multiple times by the club. But he is still only 25, still in the prime of his life, so in that context why can't be be the player he was before he was injured.

If this is Brewdogs prime, I’d dread to see him at Billys age.

We recently gave Norrington-Davies a 3 year deal which was ill advised.

We're apparently negotiating with Jack Robinson and now Rhian Brewster.

I'd prefer we waited until the Summer and re-evaluate where we are as a club.

There shouldn't be a need to rush with these players.

Is the club giving Wilder a little too much control?

I’m probably in the minority here but, imo, if Brewster could put his injury problems to bed once and for all, a fully fit, match sharp and with a coupe of good performance's and a couple of goals under his belt, Brewster would be an asset to us. A ‘confidences player’ if I ever saw one.

What comes into ur mind when u hear the word ‘asset’? I might’ve got this totally wrong but when I hear it I think of a player that plays their part in any achievement’s eg. Automatic Promotion, made by the club. In Brewster’s case this would be, creating and making goals on fairly regular basis. I think, if he was able to put his injury issues behind him, and can get a couple of good performances under him, his form come become more frequent as I think there’s a player in there.

Put it another way, that bloke who plays for Wycombe, u probably see him as an ‘asset’ to them at the moment bccs of what he brings to them 👍

Wilders defendsive tactics wont allow it not even prime Mitrovic would get 15.

That’s a convenient excuse for him then and I’m sure some of our supporters will use it as justification for wanting to throw a new deal at him.

I quite liked Grbic. There's something kind of endearing seeing someone so terrible at their (highly skilled, highly paid) job that it makes you think you could do it too. The difference is Grbic is actually shit, he looked awful on his first start for the club and never looked like he was going to get better. Brewster has talent, has played well before (and is playing well now), and Brewster has shown impressive mental fortitude getting back up from his injuries time after time.

Not even that in my opinion, I just think that Brewster will keep on improving the more game time he gets he has been really unlucly with injuries.

Tik

Time will tell, he hasn’t got much left and the last 4 seasons have been pretty dire so he’s not in a great position at the moment.

Because in the time he WASN'T injured whilst he was with us, he was never the player he was at Swansea.
I can understand that view, but I would counter by saying how many of the 92 games he has played for us been as a sub, or a few minutes here & there at the end of games, or even on the wing, or in midfield?

The 40 games he has been part of in our Premier games were also as part of a squad who stunk the league out, don't think any strikers would have scored many for us in those games.

McGoldrick scored 8 in 2020-21.

Brereton Diaz and McBurnie scored 6 each in 2023-24.

Brewster scored 0 in both.
Brewster missed half of the 2023-24 season with injury. He started three matches total. He combined played minutes totalling up to fewer than four matches.

I wouldn’t even massively stick up for whether Brewster could’ve done better previously because clearly he could’ve done. But presenting these stats like you have done is a bit off IMO.
