Winning is always a nice feeling, but I felt priviliged to have watched that game of football today.

Two technically gifted sides, littered with talented players across the pitch, both committed to winning by playing pure football. It made for a fast paced enjoyable game.

For them - Henry, Woods, Mojokto (?), Jota & Watkins (when he came on) were a constant threat. I thought they were excellent and confirmed my pre-season prediction as play off contenders. They were excellent in posession and had pace in almost every position.

For Us - Blackman unbelievably won us the game. Stevens looks a class act, JOC, Bash & Stearman were brave & committed, Coutts looked comfortably the best player on the pitch, Carruthers was excellent, Clarke & Sharp have showed glimpses that they can cope in this division.

Atmosphere - Incredible. Great noise by our fans and gave our players a huge lift.

Oh, and Pigs lost...

Yes to be fair a neutral would have said a draw would have been the fair result, it was fairly even for the first hour but they did batter us for the final half hour and should have equalised on at least two occasions.

But they didn't..

So I'm smiling tonight...

Agree but we did hit the post twice and have 2 goals disallowed ( the last one should have been given). Also have to say I thought Woods was the best player on the pitch today

Ryan Woods is a very, very good player and will be in the Premier League next season.

Jota's obviously very talented and they'll do well to hold onto him.

I think Henry is a bit over rated and I can see why no one better than Brentford signed him.

They are an exciting team. They have ability and pace all over the pitch. They've recruited intelligently and over time built a really impressive squad.

Not sure they'll be play off contenders but they'll be nowhere near relegation.

He is a terrific player. Great energy in the middle and won most of his individual battles today.

I'm fairly certain he played against us at RB for Shrewsbury a couple of years ago and said then he is a very good player. He seems better suited at CM.

Very impressed with Brentford, they reminded me of a mid table La Liga side (a bit of a poor mans Arsenal)
Technically better than us but no cutting edge. They were trying to walk the ball into the net.

Although our goalie Blackman was impressively commanding.
However apart from a couple of match winning saves he didn't have that much to do.

We just about did enough to deserve the win, great match though and a far cry from league 1.

Brentford had a lot of possession in the second half but most of it was short-passing premiership wannabe stuff. Apart from that sitter they missed they never looked like scoring. We were the better side.

You could defiantly tell the difference from league one, but if there one of the better teams in the division we'll be fine.
Brentford did play some decent stuff to be fair and had a couple of class players. But there wasn't a big difference if any between the teams.
Only thing I'd say is the were very good at closing us down, something we could improve on

Could have gone either way, could've been 3-3. Best game of football at the Lane since Spurs. Thank you Brentford for coming and giving us a proper game of football to watch, if they can be less wasteful in front of goal they will do well.

Leon was definitely onside, can't say for Billy as I was watching the shot and not the crowded area. Pretty annoyed that the lino on that side seemed to be making a point of never flagging in the first half and then couldn't stop flagging when we had the ball in the net.

Good three points, we rode our luck a bit, but the difference was their poor finishing and our great goalkeeping/defending. We'll be just fine based on that.

From the replays I've seen, Billy might just have been offside for his disallowed goal. Very close thing though.

On the other hand, it did look like he was pulled back...

Thought we started the brighter, enjoyed a fair amount of possession, and then looked a bit shocked at how quick they are. Maybe just waking up again after the closed season, maybe a bit too used to being able to nick the ball off League One players. It's been a while since we had to face a team that could put us under that kind of sustained pressure as the last twenty minutes. Definitely won't want to see us looking so frantic at the back through the rest of the season, but I guess it's inevitable for a newly promoted team. Still a couple of spots to strengthen in.

Overall, I thought we did brilliantly. Close to either side of the interval we were the better team. Passed it well, moved it well, scored and came close to a second. Aside from the desperate defending late on, we didn't abandon our principles of how we want to play and had plenty of opportunity to show how we can hurt teams this year. It would be unfair to ask for a better first test imo.

They're a very gifted side. Great movement, very fluid. And with Jota as the cherry on top.

You have to say, it was clearly a step up in class.

But we coped, hung in there when we had to, competed fully, and caused them real problems at times.

Cracking start to the new adventure. Really enjoyable game that.

They were brilliant but they had no presence in attack, a their forwards are small.

We limited them to mainly shots from outside the box

I'm a bit surprised Jota stayed on the right all game. I would've expected someone like him to be given more freedom.

I was saying how we needed to try and force them over to the left as often as possible, we seemed to start doing that more in the second half and tightened up down our left side. It's a good job we did because if it carried on how it did in the first half they would've probably had a goal from attacking down that side.

They had threats on the left too but always looked far more dangerous on the right. The clear chances seemed to stop after we sorted out that side.

Gonna get mullered for this but for me the better team lost (only just the better team). Having said that it counts for nothing we defender better and scored when it mattered.

We will have done well if we finnish above them come May, and if we can win games when we aren't the better side we will do very well

is woods the ginger lad , thought he was quality

Overall maybe Brentford just shaded it and were the slightly better side. We had the twelfth man - the crowd. From the start they got behind the team. When they felt the team needed a lift they gave it. This was the difference and should be the difference at home this season.

Them last 10 minutes were more nerve wracking than ply offs for me. God knows why. I was a wreck.

Great 3 pts. Brentford are a good side and deserved the equaliser. But goals win games.

Great debut by Blackman. Big tall imposing. Kicking was off but that's not picking.

Yes, Brentford were good but - looking at the Championship highlights yesterday - this division has a fair few similar teams. Fulham looked good, Bristol City, Hull, even Preston. It was always going to take us 6-8 games to get up to speed with the increased pace of this division. I just hope we don't drop too many points while we go through this learning curve. Middlesbrough next up...

Me Too.

We put in a huge shift yesterday and if they'd have equalised late on, or even worse nicked a win, it would have crushed us yesterday.

Recovering from that would've been difficult and killed the momentum we took into this season at the first hurdle.

Very important win.
