I know this lad has just been released by Gillingham but he could definitely do a job for us. He's a winger by trade but was played at an unfamiliar left back role for Gillingham this season. He's left footed and, fast and can take his man on. At 23 and on a free transfer, we could do a lot worse than this guy and he's young and has time to improve. He also takes a mean corner as we witnessed twice in the 4 - 0 on the first day of the season. Anyone else think the same or am I on my own?!

Think we should steer clear of anyone that has been released from clubs in this division. They've been released for a reason and if they're not good enough for them, they're definitely not players that we should be risking going for. Whether there's a chance they might turn out better or not, it's not worth it. Every signing needs to be as assured as possible in my view.

I'm thinking that if we have a limited budget, and the indications are that we will, then we can afford to spend money on maybe one or two players that have a transfer fee and higher wages etc. We need to concentre those as being the key players and the spine dictates that the centre back and a centre mid are the most important. So players that are young, whether freed or not that clearly have potential and have proved themselves at this level, should be looked at. Gillingham fans are surprised that he went, and as I said he's known as a winger and they played him at left back, so the main consensus was that, not surprisingly, he was good going forward but not up to it defensively. So as a winger maybe wing back, he would do well, I think.

He might not be a name yet but who'd heard of Bradley Dack this time this season. Plenty of players get released and then suddenly find the form they were always capable of.

Maybe he'll come good but with the situation we're in and with the desperate need to get the recruitment right, risks on players like that just aren't worth taking.

Seem to recall he had a great game at their place on the opening day but was cited as their weakest link when they came to the lane. Has he regressed thus prompting Gills to release him?

According to their fans, only from what I read, he's not shown the form he did earlier in the season. But as I say, their whole team deteriorated in recent months and more importantly, Dickenson has been played out of position all season. He's not a full back and we need a winger who can take people on who is pacey and preferably young, so he can develop and will have the hunger older players don't have. Might be worth a shout and its up to Adkins but I'll not be surprised if he ends up doing well next season in League One. Plenty of players till get released at this level and you think why, he's decent and they've gone on then to be big for big money. You've also got players who went for massive fees and then get released more than once on frees. David Cotterill springs to mind, and I wanted us to sign him when Donny got him.

6 foot, pacey. Can play left wing in a 442 or LWB in a 352. Good age. Cheap. Ticks a lot of boxes there. Not seen much of him though so can't comment with any certainty but based on that information I wouldn't be against it.

I don't know much more than anyone else but there are some gems out there, even players released at this level, then suddenly find the consistency they need.
