Combative, vocal on the pitch, leader of men, passionate, aggressive, box to box, attack minded, comfortable on the ball and knows we're the goal. These are just some of the phrases that many Blades fans have used to describe the player the team so desperately need in the middle of the park.
Well in my mind we already have such a player. Step forward John Brayford!
It's a criminal waste of talent keeping him at right back when he has so much influence on the team.

Who do you put at right back though? Freeman or someone else?

Oh dear - he we go again.

Every so often we get these square peg, round hole OP's

Yet another pretend, wind up, trolling posts this site appears to be attracting. Would be nice to get out of this division just to stop the attraction of wind up merchants.

No doubt Barney will be a long in a bit suggesting an IP scan to prove it's not him.

Wrong. I operate all 5,052 member accounts on this site.

If only football and management were that simple!

John Brayford hasn't been 'wasting' his talent at RB. He's been performing to a very good standard in that position in the Championship for a number of years. The season before his move to Cardiff he was regarded by many as the best full back in the Championship. Leave him there, he's just finding his feet again and hasn't got anywhere near back to his best yet but he's improving game by game.

So he is brilliant in the role he spent his career in (Right Back/Right Wing Back) and you want to move him out of that position into a position that he doesn't know. I have to ask if you are mental? What next, Messi in net? Ronaldo Centre Half because he is good in the air?

Must try harder.

To be fair when we first signed him on loan a Derby supporting colleague told me Brayford had played a few games in the middle for them when they had a few injuries and was immense

I still disagree with the OP though. Keep him in his natural position.

No idea what the O/P's done to warrant such sensitive, offended responses but I suppose that's just what happens on here with new posters. It's a fair enough point of view and Brayford does have the attributes, on the surface at least, to play in that position and do well there in this division. But what you'll never know until you try is the positional side of it. At centre half where he's played before you've got everything in front of you and focus only on defending, it's very different in midfield. It is worth a try, ideally in a three man midfield, which would alleviate some of the individual responsibility for him. If you spend £2m on someone as a third division club ideally you'd have the player in a position where he can have more influence than at right back. These position changes do occasionally work for players. If not, move him back to right back, no big deal. But we should try it.

Bit harsh on the O.P. fellas, it's not a negative post, just an idea.

That central midfield definitely needs some creativity and forward energy.

Inspirational maybe but is he really a vocal and a leader of men?

I get the sense he wants to do his job to the very best of his ability and help the team that way but that he isn't really a leader.

Adkins even described him as quiet this week.

Personalities are often totally different on and off the pitch but let him do what he's good at and look elsewhere for the desired conventional leadership qualities.

For me he would probably be our best box to box midfielder and would do a good job there... I guess that says everything that needs to be said about our midfield.

I agree with that wholeheartedly. Quite a few people have suggested that Brayford is captain material but I really don't see why. He's not very vocal on the pitch at all and rarely converses with the officials.

A likeable member of the squad, definitely. He's also clearly popular and has a great work ethic. He is in no way a leader though which is what we are lacking most, unless Hammond continues with performances like his one on Sunday.

but hes a natural , defence-attack right back
he pulls the right side together
we need an experienced ,dyed in the wool centre back
with a gob on him

lets play players in their defined position , bit radical maybe
That's the first time I've brought myself to liking one of your posts. Never again.

I don't think it's any coincidence that in the 3 games that Edgar and Brayford have been back in the side that we have conceded one goal, which came in the 95th minutes, when Edgar had gone off injured.

This has been said countless times before.

We payed nigh on £1.5m for a right back, for fuck sake leave him at right back.

Yes because if we'd needed to spend that money on a commanding centre back and a tough tackling midfielder, we'd have spent that money on.......oh hang on

Oops! Sorry for murdering those puppies guys. But that was a genuine post with what I thought was a reasonable suggestion. Kieran Freeman had done nothing wrong before being dropped for Brayford and Alcock is also quality in that positon. Its just the old headache of how to accommodate a glut of good players in the same position.
Adkins has been putting square pegs in round holes all season and his judgement of certain players seems to be pretty damned shit.
I simply don't trust the bloke to bring the right players in come January whether gets the boards backing or not.

Freeman is not a particularly good defender and often takes up bad positions. Alcock is average.
On one hand you're criticising Adkins for playing square pegs in round holes but on the other advocating doing exactly that.
And now you've turned a post about Brayford into another dig at Adkins.

Well we definitely agree there.
