The above page is from the Utd programme 60 years ago today, v Ipswich, and has details I was unaware of which I thought might be of interest. The perspective of 1899 viewed from 1962 is interesting in itself, and the detail of the sports to be accommodated at The Lane, as well as those that are forbidden, raises a smile. The main question I wanted to ask is whether anyone knows whether the legal document signed in 1899 is still valid, and that Bramall Lane can only be used for ‘the furtherance of sport FOR ALL TIME’. Nothing lasts for ever, but has this clause survived 123 years?

Whilst I was not around in 1899 I would guess that Mr Neal’s background would have ensured that there would be a covenant in the deeds which would still be in force today. Who has the benefit of that/those covenant(s) and therefore who could now enforce it/them if needed is another, very different, question.
It is possible that the Duke of Norfolk’s estate still hold land in the area and could enforce any covenant if it wished.

I wonder if any of the covenants could have any bearing on McCabes plans to build on the corners?

Not sure if this is the best thread but had a question.

Bramall Lane described as:

It is the oldest major stadium in the world still hosting professional association football matches.

The Racecourse described as:

It is the world's oldest international football stadium that still hosts international matches, having hosted Wales' first home international match in 1877.

Sandygate is described as:

The oldest football ground in the world.

So, I get the distinction between BDTBL and Sandygate. Hallam FC are in the 9th tier so taking the professional football ground tag away is unlikely.

But given the return of International football with the women's world cup as well as U21 England football, does this mean it takes the tag from Wrexham? Not as if Wrexham is the primary location for Wales games with the Millennium Stadium being about.

Thoughts?

I feel like I've been since 1889 sometimes, anyone else?!
