Just been looking and this is the quickest promotion following relegation we've had since 1988/89 when we came straight back up to Division 2 after relegation the previous season. In terms of between the top flight and second tier, this is our quickest ever return. The previous record was the two season gap between 1968 and 1971!

I wonder if the likes of Watford are sick of going up and down between the top two tiers like an elderly prostitute's knickers when Wayne Rooney's in town, for us it's summat a bit different, savour it.

I guess it's true, if you don't fucking bounce...

Quite content to be a yo-yo club for a while. Little bit of Prem till I get annoyed with divers, VAR and Lineker, then a little bit of Champ till I get delusions of grandeur then back to the Prem and so on and so forth...😄
That sounds like paradise…If it works out like that of course. But Norwich tried to break the cycle and I suppose they did this season.

It would be nice to really establish ourselves in the Prem for at least 2 or 3 seasons then press on with some sound recruitment and investment, lift ourselves to a top tier academy and become a decent premier outfit and stamp ourselves as THE club in Sheffield for another generation or two.

Come on Blades!
That’s the dream isn’t it - doing that without some investment is a huge ask though. Every season you stay up when you have a bottom 3 budget is a massive beating of the odds (and managers/players deserve huge respect if they achieve this)… but if you keep rolling those dice every season then sooner or later the drop is coming.

This is the more realistic ambition if we don’t get a big money takeover.

I’d take either at this point.

Appropriate and satisfying that my 20,000th post is on a thread about us being promoted back to the Premier League.

May I take this opportunity to hope all your football and promotion ambitions are realised over the next few season.

Its good to be a Blade 🤡

Yeah we still have a while to go to achieve “fan entitlement” levels of some clubs.

When we hit that level that we shouldn’t be in the championship because “we’re too good for it”, despite being relegated, we’ll have made it.

Agree on the sentiments about being comfortable being a yo-yo club for a while. Of course, the ultimate ambition is to become established, but realistically I’d take a few years like these past few years.

Since being relegated from the top flight in the 70s the club has spent way too many seasons out of the top flight (compared with before then). Also, it’s criminal that Sheffield hasn’t had that much of a presence in the top flight for so long, so I’d love for that to be us. Especially in this period of its existence where it is absolutely huge. The exposure it can bring shouldn’t be underestimated.

This is it. I want us to be established as a solid Prem side. No one has any divine right to be up there, but it is strange that one of the country's larger cities doesn't have a top flight team.

And, of the two, we are far better set up in every way - location, ground, facilities, academy, youngsters, management team, squad, players with potential, internationals, social media presence. We just need to take that next step now.

Exactly. In a very macabre way, we need a period of it being boring.

Being 'established' in the PL is a difficult act these days. Just look at Leicester this season and where they were only two years ago. Think it's not an exaggeration to say that there are 13 teams in the Prem now that if they went down, you wouldn't treat it as some end-times shock.
