My first favourite United player, a shame he didn't stick around longer.

Perrozzi we'll be about the same age then mate, and your recollections resonate with me. I think back to this side and they weren't just mere men (as footballers are now) they appeared like heroes, giants of men, superstars. Such is the impression your childhood heroes can have.

This side had loads, Borbokis, Quinn, Deane, Kelly, Tracey, Holdsworth, Whitehouse, Fjortoft.

This side should have gone up, it was absolutely superb, the best side that never was. We were robbed of it, by the board's lack of ambition.

Come to think of it, I've always liked attacking wing backs the most, ever since. Roberto Carlos, the Kyles, now Enda and George...
Fortunatly I got to be a mascot around that time on my Birthday against Swindon at home. I remember walking into the dressing room and just looking at these gods of men in absolule awe. My mother also fancied the bollocks off Gareth Taylor.

Again, like many on here, this for me was the making of a great side at my young age. I’d been blooded years before and went to the odd game while my dad was still playing Saturdays. Remember the defeat to the pigs in the Wembley semi, went in our (THE) first Prem season and went to the play off final at the old Wembley vs Palace (Hopkin last min goal).

Roll on 1998 and first game of the season my grandad wangled us the Wards box on the new John Street Stand (he was a pub landlord). Went and met all the players etc, what a great day, I think I was about 13. My dad had packed in playing and that game seemed to renew his love for going to watch the Blades since being a kid. He took us down and got us season tickets that week. The rest is history.

PS. We watched the players turn up that day in their fancy motors. Then Vas Borbokis turned up in a clapped out Ford Escort, looking like he just got out of bed. Have we imagined that?
