why was the crowd so big?

why was the crowd so big?

The Dingles only gave the Massive 25k tickets and that only accounts for a fraction of their travelling army, so 13k went over the hill to cheer on their new bezzie Lancs mates.

Another 5k went to support Ches Vegas becasue they aren't very bright, so that leaves about 5k genuine Bolton fans.

Chez Vegas have the worst defence in the division but Bolton have managed a total of no goals against them this season. It's a 1-0 aggregate win for the Spireites.

Something in that.

Chesterfield are a big strong side. If your trying to hoof it against them with no guile, you are likely to come unstuck.

Also Bolton scored 4 v Gills - all set plays or long throws.

4 v Oxford - 3 set plays

4 v fleetwood - 3 set plays and one cross that went in.

If you keep relying on set plays to score, you will fail to score at some point.

Think they were only charging a fiver. The thinking was, this is a nailed on cert win against struggling Chezzie so a good advert for the rampant Trotters. 0-0 and one shot on target; that went well didn't it?

Exactly that!

I knew their goals would dry up soon. You won't keep scoring twice from set pieces every game.

When we played them earlier this season, First half at their place we struggled with their physicality. Billy was in the Centre Halves pockets, Duffy was lost and Done chased lost causes.

2nd half Clarke dealt with their centre halves, not by battling them, but dropping deeper. Billy went wide right and saw a lot of the ball, Duffy came into his own and Freeman was bombing on.

Its telling that we had 4 goalscorers that day. Movement was excellent from 20 mins on and the halftime and second half tweaks from Wilder changed the game

It also helped that Danny Wilson got Chesterfield having a go at us, presumably they didn't want to do that at Bolton as they need every point they can get

Bolton are a physical side relying purely on height and strength
85 per cent of their goals are from set pieces
any team that can combat that then Bolton are clueless

We matched their strength against them and won in second gear

Nice one
Swiss has morphed into Bergen Blade

I listened to the chezvegas game while driving to London. The commentators on Peak FM, or whoever Player took the feed from, couldn't believe how well chesterfield played. It was a performance that had been coming..... Where from though? bugger knows.

The Bolton crowd was comical to listen to though. It was so obviously full of part timers. No noise at all until there was a chance on goal, then a lot of over excited giddiness, then silence again. No appreciation of good play, or the constant murmerings of a large crowd. All that was missing was vuvuzelas and inflatable clapping sticks.

Maybe a resigned mindset of playing in league 2 gave them a 'nothing to lose' attitude. Cauldwell is ex-Wigan so maybe meant more to him too. Who knows the diagnosis but with this result I cannot see them beating an in-form Southend who at scoring freely.

Like others have said, when you rely predominantly on set plays and centre halves scoring from them, you're going to struggle eventually.

They don't deserve the title, we do.

UTB from sunny Copenhagen!

Well most of our players over the last 5 years or so have had stage fright, one of the reasons we have stayed in this league for so long. Bolton look like getting promoted first time of asking, even if they finish second we have no right to mock them, we've been stuck here for 6 seasons.

A friend who supports Bolton and went to the game, reported that the first half they were rubbish and second half marginally better.

They continually hoofed it up to Madine - who unfortunately wasn't playing!

Bolton on free fall , in massive debt , loads of takeovers , wannabe millionaires , transfer embargo and second in the league , some players still on big money . Couldn't care a flying fuck about Bolton , but in the cold day of light , will have done better than us in getting out if this division at the first time of asking . They may have stage fright but are giving us a run for us money .

Stage fright we haven't spent five seasons playing against this shit, we diped our toe and got straight back out, that's what big club's do, all though I don't know how we did it playing such shit football compered to yarkshires Barcelona.
