Who remembers Joe Bolton? I only remember him as being a solid left back in the early 80s.

Interesting thread here about him on the Sunderland message board

My favourite: Chuck Norris wouldn't go to Sunderland. He knew Joe Bolton lived there!

Not the most talented footballer in the world .... but was solid, took NO prisoners and really loved being sung about !!

........ brings back good memories of the John St Terrace ......

More balls than all last season's team put together !! :):);)

UTB & FTP

Yes remember him waving to John Street who were singing his name

Unfortunately he was waving whilst the winger was skinning him

Hard as nails but not a bad footballer, last time I saw him he pulled into our firm driving a HGV and looked a few pounds heavier than when he was playing for us.

Six foot two, eyes of blue, BIG Joe Bolton's after you, na-na, na-na, na-na, na-nanaaa....

Met him once. First United player I'd ever spoken to. Nice bloke.

Loved Joe Bolton . Did Keith Edwards get him a job driving lorries
Don't know the answer to that LBoE , I remember when footballers retired a lot of them became pub landlords but with the demise of the pub industry they now go into other walks of life. Just had a pint in that new boozer Chris Waddle and Keith Hackett have opened in town called THE PIG AND WHISTLE it's rubbish.:p

I remember a match, against Aldershot I think, where a young winger skipped passed Joe in the first couple of minutes. He tried it again a few minutes later and found himself on the ground in considerable pain. I'm not sure what Joe said to him before he got up, but it influenced his decision not to venture beyond the half way line for the rest of the game.

He almost ran over me in the Bramall Lane carpark :(
