From what I understand, he was also treated on the NHS, what costs would Barnsley FC incur? :)

Mr Samuel has started spouting this morning too.

I should add that I really do feel for the lad as no-one deserves to be injured like that in a footballing accident

Im afraid that this is something us fans are going to have to get used to now. Many sections of the media are going to scrutinise every little thing about our club. It was always going to be the case that by taking a London club to court, the same club that gave us Bobby Moore, the world cup winning captain! sections of the media would be disgruntled. All these newspapers are written by cockneys, in their London head quarters. Every paper is going to have West Ham fans working for them! Martin Samuel (the man who grew a beard to hide all 3 of his chins (and thats coming from me!!!!)) will be rounding them all up!

Firstly, United broke no law, no footballing law in that Barnsley match. The incident was between 2 people, not 2 clubs. If they want to sue somebody it would be Morgs they'd have to go after.

Secondly, we've already donated an undisclosed fee, thought to be in the region of 500k-750k. Ok, this was in return for Brian Howard, but lets be honest it might has well have been a donation!

Thirdly, if United do get the suggested £25million figure, I'd have no quarms with them giving Barnsley abit of money. After all it would be nice of us to look after our smaller, local township club. Abit like we do Rotherham and Chesterfield, because afterall, Barnsley are only a similar club to those.

Rant over!

You really do having to question the intelligence of the some of these people... 'Blood money' - what on earth??
At what point was blood spilled in this whole affair?
At times you have to just sit back and laugh after reading stories like this. Yes Hume was badly injured and yes morgan was at fault but it was just a reckless challenge he didnt do it with any malice, does anyone really believe that morgan was aiming to fracture his skull!?
But I have to agree with gregblade, maybe we should just give them a small fee to give us the moral high ground. However, we all know that wont be the end of it! Next time a minor incident or indiscretion occurs we will have our name branded in all the newpapers again calling is hypocrites for events that are in no way linked...

Ah well, having everyone against us is what being a blade is all about so lets just get on with it!

Lincoln Blade

I've said before... let the insurance companies sort it out. There's no need for any payments above and beyond that and sets a precedent for the rest of football.

Should a team really offer money when a player is injured, no matter how bad the injury?

I agree with a bit of what you said, apart from giving The Dingles some money.... I wouldn't give them a cent to be quite honest.

Over the years both Sheffield clubs have been the ones the press seem to enjoy lynching, I don't know why or wish to delve into why either.

As for the incident with Barnsley...I've seen worser shit in ice hockey with less punishments

As I recall, Wolves were also held liable in the Kevin Wombat case. If I'm sober enough to search around, I'll check the details.

Medical bill? Sure he was treated on the NHS. Compensation should go to him for the trauma he's gone through, surely? Usual unresearched, shit stirring gutter press.

I can't help thinking that a lot of attention is going to come our way now that we have this money. Press will be looking into this injury problem and in our dealing on the transfer market. remember the player that went to Watford two years ago and the guy who ended up at Charlton this year.
