Long term poster here. Let's take stock. All the other Blades bloggers vloggers podders and content providers have a major advantage over me. They can start generating content immediately a Utd game finishes. My profile means I have to wait until I've done an extra hour and half in the pub. Plus, I'm lazy. So my Blogs always appear days after the event. Pointless ego exercise. But, it so happens that v PNE was my 999th game day blog. And I've subsequently done my one thousandth as I was at County Cricket yesterday. I'm quite pleased with myself accordingly. So if you want a relentless day in day out, 2 games every 5 days even after there's been a pandemic, keep coming at you, great back catalogue, blog - I'm your go to guy ... but late. Here's 999 from PNE

And 1k - a true BALLS UP

Can you reveal any good drinking spots in Hull for Saturday? Or is that top secret CBF intel

Haven't done Hull for a few years, but we used to turn left out the station and then left again at the next major junction. Going that way avoids all the town centre pubs where the bouncers won't let you in as it's matchday. Used to be The Spring Bank and the Hole in the Wall, then left down to a back street pub whose name I can't recall. It's a 15 min walk across the railway line and park to the ground after that. All those used to have decent ale, but as it's a fuckin stupid o'clock early kick off they might not be open that early.

Other way around. Didn't get in there until 1040pm. (Had two games in the John Street Exec courtesy of a friend, so done the Beavertown Neck Oil in there pre match)

The Rising Sun's sister Abbeydale Breweries pub, The Devonshire Cat, was our pre and post match watering hole for 15 years. Shut down during the pandemic. What's the sodding world coming to?

Not a dig at you, nor your comment. But, that's the point isn't it - people see pubs as pre & post match watering holes for a 19 day/night football season (Premier League). Pubs can't survive on that level of business. There was a time (pre Abbeydale) when I was in the Devonshire Cat every day of the working week. A long time ago. It's use 'em or lose 'em I'm afraid.

The CBF are always nervous recommending Pubs. Particularly pre match. The problem is the definition of "good".....

Big sprawling place, Sky Sports News on every Tele, price promotion on lager, beer garden for the kids to fucking destroy, burgers

Brewery yard, you sit on discarded barrels, one off beers made with foraged Hops, north of 7.8%, vegan sausage rolls

Old man's pub, with no sign, you have to know the address, 2 beers on, same two beers since the day they opened, pork scratchings

All the lads will be in there, singing the deffo sexist & probably racist songs from the back of the Kop, drinking from cans they've bought at Lidl, maybe let a flare off, crisps

Hipster gaff on the edge of an industrial estate, order on the App, credit cards only, nothing south of £6.20 a pint, artisan boiled eggs.

Different drinkers will each think of one of them as a good Pub. Other "firms" have hunted the CBF down after "recommending the wrong type of pub". Minefield. What you after?

Yeah, I see your point. But of the 10 or so lads (lads? all now over 60...) that meet up on matchdays, only 1 lives in Sheffield. I live out towards Huddersfield, several are in Rovrum/Chezzie, and one comes up from Worcester for every game. So we're nearly all in on the train. And I have to add that I gleefully support my local pubs, much to my bank account's detriment. But you're right. More people seem to derive pleasure from watching celebrities on TV baking cakes, dancing around, or eating shite in the jungle, rather than supping good ale. So I think my point is still valid - 'What's the sodding world coming to?'

For people asking about Hull pubs in this thread....

This is where we went last time we were at Hull, more than did the job especially as it's close to the big car park near the stadium (I'm assuming that's still a car park, a few years on). Bit of a trek from the station for anyone getting the train as it's another 10 mins or so past the ground. I'd say it straddles a line somewhere between these two points on the Ball_Sup spectrum:

"Big sprawling place, Sky Sports News on every Tele, price promotion on lager, beer garden for the kids to fucking destroy, burgers"

"All the lads will be in there, singing the deffo sexist & probably racist songs from the back of the Kop, drinking from cans they've bought at Lidl, maybe let a flare off, crisps"

Must admit, now they have Neck Oil on, I don't mind buying a pint, pre-game.

Somewhere between these two for after the match . Our usual pre match is Cremorne or Stags Head if that helps gauge where we’re at

I've had a Pun Come. As my Content is always slow off the mark and lagging behind I'm going to become a Plodder.
