Afternoon all,

Quick-ish podcast from myself and Roygbiv talking about an entertaining if rather stupid game last night, in which neither side particularly covered itself in glory BUT it was at least a fun game for once, at times. Discussed Jagielka's disastrous cameo giving us flashbacks to end-of-days Steve Bruce v Michael Bridges, McGoldrick on fire, no more excuses not to be more attacking, and also Les Dennis. Hope you enjoy, thank you for listening.

I don’t like this selling Berge drum you keep beating. For me we have to hold onto our best players no matter what. If we go down and he WANTS a move then fair enough. Personally, if the worst does happen and we go down, then I’d like to see him give us a year to get back up.

Cheers again. Managed to listen today.

Must admit I didn’t even get out of my seat for the goal, I was more shocked than excited and knew that us scoring early in the game wasn’t a good thing.

It was a much improved performance, but as Didzy said, it couldn’t have been worse.

Completely surrendered the game when Jags came on and still too many average to poor performances for us to ever hurt Man Utd.

I want to see Didz, Burke, Brewster for Brighton and see how we get on. Mousset last 20 to come on and sulk a bit for us again.

Finally Wilder and also Didsy came out and said the Southampton performance was unacceptable. Wilder compared it to Walsall and Hull.

That is all we wanted to hear after the match not after lasts night match. I guess Wilder has his reasons for delaying criticism of the Soton performance. 🤷‍♂️

I can't speak for Ben but I don't think anyone wants him to be sold. I just think he's the most obvious source of raising funds. We will have to recoup some money on players next season and I'd rather it be him then Egan or JOC

If we do have to sell players... it’ll be a sad day, it’ll feel like we’re back at square one!
But I agree... he’s our most valuable asset and we need to hold on to Egan and JOC.

In an ideal World we’ll hold on to everyone and move on the dead wood. Suppose it all depends on whether the parachute payments cover all the costs for the year.

Well obviously in an IDEAL World we’ll pull off the greatest magic trick since Copperfield made the Statue of Liberty disappear!!

I’m guessing he didn’t want to publicly lay into a bunch of players with low confidence immediately after they’d just been dry bummed. With a few days and hopefully a few stern words it’s more acceptable to lay into them.

It’s difficult with Berge as he’s the type that would obviously be good for us if we progress to that next level. But how do you ever reach that level if you don’t start integrating that player sooner rather than later. Maybe we tried to run before we could walk competently and in hindsight we’d have been better signing him in 12 months time - although as Wilder said you have to take your opportunity when these players become available as he’d have invariably gone somewhere in the summer window anyway. I hope we can keep hold of him and I think there’s a good chance we do but agree that I’d sooner protect selling your JOC’s et al first and foremost.

I can’t see Berge wanting to play for a Championship team, as someone who signed when we (unrealistically) had Europe in our sights I’d be surprised if he doesn’t have a relegation clause and we have to accept a bid at less than what we paid.

This is spot on, I think. I'd be amazed if there wasn't a relegation clause in his contract. I think he's technically our best player (suffering the same crisis of confidence as the rest of the squad at the minute) and would love him to stay, but if we're relegated there's no way he will. It's a very difficult decision for Mr Bettis and the Prince: we'll definitely get more for him in January than we would with an activated leave clause in the summer. Stick or twist?
