Roygbiv and I give our thoughts on the Bournemouth draw and what it means to get that first point on the board (and to have Billy Sharp get the first goal) - then, memories of Mark Duffy (38:31 - feel free to skip if, like me, you're still sad about this), the Besic / Verrips signings (52:50), and a preview of the Palace game (58:29). Finally, I'm joined by Jay Crame from theeaglesbeak.com, a Palace fansite, to get an insider view into CPFC ahead of Sunday's game.

Regards the bad Fraser tackle on Norwood.

The commentator said that VAR is only used when yellow cards are given, they check whether it should be a red and then advise the ref.
As no yellow card was issued then VAR cameras never checked it, as per the rules.

Also I agreed the tackle was potentially dangerous but looked accidental, didn’t look like a stamp either, so didn’t deserve a red.

Also agree that Enda and Egan looked like they’d been playing in the PL for years.

Also I agreed the tackle was potentially dangerous but looked accidental, didn’t look like a stamp either, so didn’t deserve a red.

I think it helped Fraser that the point of contact was very close to the ground, coupled with the fact it didn’t look like the hardest impact. Did Norwood even need any treatment for it? Had it been 5 or so inches higher up the leg it would have probably been more in red card territory, as the contact would have been more off the ground.

Of course had the reverse happened I’m sure Fraser would have got up like Norwood fairly swiftly...

May have been accidental but if the ref had seen it from the camera angle it would have been a yellow.
With him standing on his lower leg quite possibly var would have said red card.
Wilder not one for making issues out of such things though. I think Fraser was a lucky boy.

Another factor is that Norwood (to his credit) didn’t go rolling around like he’d been shot. Agree Fraser was lucky in that respect.

You can imagine if this had happened to Saurez at Barcelona he’d have been rolling around with all the Barca players (including the keeper) all crowding the ref calling for the red. Their players will have also looked distressed calling for the stretcher as though he’d broken his leg.

In these latest podcasts I like how “Roy’s View” provides an overview of what opposition fans are saying on their forum.
That’s a new feature however I still miss the stats angle backing up who our best performing/ worse performing players were. Although Bournmouth had more possession and looked better (apart from the last 15 mins) we actually had the best chances and could have easily won, wonder what the XG was.

Enjoyed it though....it provides a really good service to Blades.

As with Roy,everyone appreciates your efforts, regarding the tackle both Stelling and LeTisier had a sharp intake of breath at the tackle, both thought a yellow and possibly a red but didn't go any further

It was higher but probably not to the extent where you'd say we deserved to win - Infogol has it 1.31 v 1.73, Understat 1.34 v 1.6. At the very least you could say that we shaded a tight game, and could / would have won on another day. Which I think is probably most people's assessment anyway

Sheffsteel I am trying to work that in, I think the conversation just went in a slightly different direction and ended up talking more about what it means to get that first goal / point than properly drilling in to things. But as the season goes on and we see more trends, they'll definitely be included.

Motd had Bournemouth winning the XG battle. 1.6 vs 1.45 I think.

I little skewed though as I believe both team's highest XG chances directly led to the goals (Wilson and McBurnie).
