Seeing as it's Yorkshire Day, who would make it into your Yorkshire Sheffield United XI?

Gary Cahill (even though he supports the Massive)
Whitehouse
Mitch Ward

Before my time but didn't most of the legendary '71 side come through from local junior football?

Stancliffe should be in there somewhere too. Andy Barnsley can sweep out the changing rooms afterwards.

NOt many of the 71 side did - off the top of my head the side and their birthplaces were:

1. Hope - Shildon Co. Durham
2. Badger - Sheffield (went to the same school as my dad)
3. Hemsley - Stoke
4. Flynn - Workington
5. Colquhoun - Prestonpans, Scotland
6. Hockey - Keighley, Yorks (though he later managed to play for Wales!)
7. Woodward - Chapeltown
8. Salmons - Mexborough
9. Dearden - Oldham
10, Currie - Edgware, Middlesex
11. Reece - Cardiff

So, only 4 Yorkshiremen and only one born in Sheffield as then was (though Chapeltown came into Sheffield in 1973). Only Woodward, Badger and Salmons came through the youth set up.

Cheers for that - funny how our Dads' memories grow rosier with age.

I'd have Mick Jones in the Yorkshire Blades.

Funny, I'd always thought that he was in the 1971 winning line-up, but then I'm an old git.

Is he a Blade or a Pig?

UTB

He's a Blade I think. There's a Sheffield United pocket watch on the cover of one of his books and he mentions checking the United scores whilst in the arctic or somewhere else equally as desolate.

Twas a joke fella - I think we've nailed the fact that he's "primarliy" a blade.

Think Mendonca was from Sunderland and Tomlinson was another from Dronfield.

Unfortunately he was born in Notts - near Worksop.

In a village called Rhodesia!

Paul was born in Rotherham. His family moved to Dronfield some years later. His dad was the landlord of the Hyde Park pub
