Campbell's failure to pass was criminal. I could underststand him going alone if his teammate was under pressure or wider with a tight angle. BBD was neither of these. It was a simple tap-in and the keeper would not have been given a chance to save it. There was always a chance it would be saved if Campbell tried to knock it past the keeper.

As bad a mistake as giving away a stupid penalty.

Yes, O Hare's dithering when he should have let a shot go was poor too. Luckily JRS was in the right place to finish so we overlooked the error. If we'd lost 1-0 people would be talking about the squandered chances all day (there were a couple of bad decisions v Portsmouth too). Sure these poor decisions in the box will be pointed out when the match is analysed.

Yep. Unbelievably bad. Campbell drew the keeper and at that point should have squared to BBD for a tap in from 10 yards. As the commentator said, he must have been the most relieved man in the ground when Anel scored.

Campbell had a few choices there.

1. Pass to BBD.
2. Chip the keeper ala BBD (unlikely as he was on his left foot and the keeper closed the angle)
3. Try to round the keeper and shoot into the empty net.

Unfortunately he chose none of these and tried to shoot when the keeper was quick off his line and closed him down.

I can understand why he did what he did as he's coming back from injury and he's eager to score again. The extra touch is what removed options 2 and 3, he didn't need to take it and it resulted in the keeper closing him down.

He's not the only one as a lot of our players take unnecessary extra touches and that's the difference between playing in the Championship and Premier League. Indecision.

It would be harsh to pick faults on a great all round performance.

As others have pointed out, Campbell is lucky we found the 3rd goal soon after anyway. Had they equalized he would not have been too popular

I can understand why he took the shot, but when a pass is on that leads to a certain goal you play it. I think even Ronaldo would have squared it! Was at a delicate point in the game where Boro were throwing caution to the wind (hence us being presented with the 2 v 1 scenario) and when chances come to kill the game off as easily as that it's crucial to take them. In the PL that can and will bite you in the arse.

Hot, spicy take time but I think 80% of forwards would shoot where Campbell did, there. Running at pace, fairly central, left-footed, I think most of them take the shot on there. I wish it had been a better finish but I won't pillory him for not seeing and/or choosing the pass.
