Yep why didn't he track the runner? Why were the 3 defenders in front of goal rooted to the spot leaving Hendo to try and close the angle down? You don't realise how good O'Connell is until he is missing.
 
Don‘t think Henderson did a great job either. He gets beaten at his near post again, and I’m not sure he needed to come rushing so far off his line In that situation - but, sod it, at least we were at the races today. Good to see.
 
Norwood didn't track that late midfield run again.

Few times that has happened since lockdown.
 
1st disallowed goal, that certainly came off the defenders head to Lundstram, I thought that played you onside.

What’s would the ruling be if the ball was headed sideways or backwards from Mcburnies header but then deflects forward into the path of Lunny to stab home?
 
Bit late with my thoughts on the match, but having just seen Wilder's post match interview I thought Chris captured it perfectly. As he said, there's a few who are off pace at the moment, whether it's confidence, whether they're not as alert as they've shown they can be, I really like Wilder's analysis. No rants, no blaming for the sake of blaming, just the considered opinions of our manager. Nice to see Berge showing some of what he's capable too. I thought there were moments when SB looked a quality player, and listening to him yesterday the fella's a grounded, realistic, and very talented player that will become an integral part of this team. Again, Wilder said as much and I'm just grateful our manager is capable of the type of assessment that hits an issue on the head, no amateur dramatics, just accurate assessments of where we are and what has to be done to get us back on track. There's no need to panic, just hard work, good analysis, can't ask for any more.

Wilder seemed a lot more happier with the players yesterday. If Wilder is happy then I am happy.

I can only assume he thought he could get closer to the ball. It was stupid really. Should have stayed put and and just moved out a bit to close the angle off.

Maybe if Stevens hadn’t decided to watch Ceballos walk past him he may have stayed on his line. I can’t believe the stick Henderson has had for their winner.

Indeed. A few of our fans could do with less amateur dramatics and more accurate assesments. He's oreight that Wilder chap. I imagine he watches potential signings for longer than a few games before deciding their suitability for our beloved Blades. :rolleyes:

I'm basing my view on everything that Wilder has said regarding how a player is assessed. How he, or his staff, know what a player's temperament is like is beyond me, but good on 'em for being so thorough. You can't blame some supporters, although a few could do well to learn the importance of listening.

Truth is, I'm coming round to the view that this Wilder fella might one day have it within him to try his hand at football management.

I think he's very intuitive. Had the pleasure of meeting him randomly in Barkers Pool and he looks right into your eyes in a very attentive manner. Proper genuine bloke.

Occasionally you find the odd bit of barbed comment regarding Wilder on this forum. It must be like water off a duck's back as his people skills are right up there as far as I'm concerned. For the most part we have a top drawer manager in Wilder, and if anyone's doubtful about this I'd ask them to consider where we were when he was appointed and where, in just under four years, we've managed to secure a place in what's called the toughest Division in the world. That alone confirms the rounded skill-set that Wilder must possess.

We've not spent a fortune, we've signed mostly little known players, yet it's no coincidence that these supposed 'lesser talents' have shown what can be achieved with excellent coaching (this is the point where Alan Knill receives a round of applause), so anyone who carps, who tries to find legitimate reasons to pull this team to bits, must surely have no idea about the magnitude of the achievement that Wilder and Knill have been able to build at this club. But my focus is mostly on Wilder, and he's the architect whose vision continues to refuse to let anyone rest, Wilder's the one pushes and cajoles, who prompts and praises, and all with one end, to make us better, to establish this club amongst England's top teams. Given the stringent demands of this Division we may well get relegated at some point, but if this were to happen I'd put money on there being a quick return to the Premier Division. Can anyone imagine Wilder would be truly happy anywhere other than this Division?

My one main concern wouldn't be on Wilder or any of his staff, it would fall on the person this club appointed to take over from Wilder. Just as Moyes had a disastrous time as Ferguson's successor at Old Trafford, so it could be for the guy who follows in Wilder's footsteps. Of course I hope this isn't the case, I hope we find someone who manages to impose their own vision, their own standards on this club, and what it means to be a Blade. That would make me, and the many thousands who support this club, happy beyond belief.

I agree wholeheartedly. I wonder if anyone is being groomed as his eventual successor,Billy or Jags? Perhaps they would need to complete an "apprenticeship" elsewhere first, if indeed another Blade is seen as the way to go.
I might just be allowing sentiment to prevail.

There are not too many managers/coaches around with all the attributes you mention and that could slot in seamlessly post CWAK.

All conjecture and anyway I want to see many more seasons with the pair of them here. We have every chance of making Europe before too long because they just keep pushing us on and on.

It's phenomenal what we have achieved in a short period and I cannot wait to get back to the Lane to watch it all unfold,whilst immersing myself in the joyous step by step journey. The future will look after itself.

Sheffield will remain Red n White for a good while yet,thanks to the genius and driving force of Mester Wilder.

For what it's worth the key word for Wilder's successor has to be 'good'. Otherwise we might end up with someone of the calibre of Chris Morgan. I know that might sound unnecessary, even spiteful, but as we've seen with this country's top clubs, finding someone of the calibre to change things for the better isn't easy.

Hopefully by the time the question of a new appointment is worth considering, we'll seem an attractive proposition to someone with ambition and the necessary attributes to take us forward. It'll be a new chapter for this club, but first we have to enjoy this moment in time, we have a great manager, we're still viewed as interlopers, still a surprise package, one that in the eyes of many 'experts' will fail sooner rather than later. Wilder has an enormous job on his hands, I hope that even with the behind the scenes politics that involves McCabe, we'll be able to navigate our way through these issues and create a foundation from which we can go from strength to strength.

I agree with what you are saying, but can’t help wondering why so much detailed chatter about “ when Wider eventually moves on”.
Like you, most fans can’t see Wilder being happy anywhere else. It is indeed a massive undertaking, and his demeanor hasn’t really shifted from, a fingerprint on every part of the club. That takes some doing over a prolonged period, and Wilders touch, seems just right, if it’s in first team affairs, the academy, or fitness levels. He has even determined a lot of the activity, above him, just by dint of his managerial success.
While being Chris Wilder cannot be easy, he seems to get infinite satisfaction from his all round, involved role at the club. Keep him busy and encourage his success, and he will achieve much more at this club. I’m sure he loves it all.

None of which was my intention Charlie. The laws of nature tell us that should Wilder remain our manager, one day he'll retire, and then what? That's the point I was getting at. Who knows whether CW will remain our manager, but you have to plane for every eventuality, so one day someone else will sit in Wilder's seat, and boy, the bugger better be good...
 
Just seen the extended highlights and has anyone noticed the arsenal winner, fleck was taken out by the number 11, so he cant get back to defend his side, looked dodgy to me

Nice to see someone in the advanced planning and preparation stage. I hope we have a very long wait before we have to appoint his successor. 🙏
