Blades turn down Everton bid for D.C.L

I don't see the need to rush to offload DCL. If we were completely cash strapped to rebuild the team then maybe snatch up any money going, but the backing of CW to date clearly wasn't dependant on DCL money. The lad is 19 and has upside potential which he may or may not fulfill.
I am optimistic of a good campaign and that in 6-9 months time the club is looking for players capable of playing at a higher level... Time will tell if any of our academy players are capable of rising to this challenge but 2x Kyle's & Matt L did.
Premiership rules on home grown (UK) quotas in squads supplemented by U21 players have fuelled daft increases in English player values (Raheem Sterling for gods sake). DCL's market value is more likely to have grown in 12 months time than diminished. Hold on for now, is my view and see what player we have on our hands as he continues to grow, fill out and gain experience.

There lies the dilemma Melton. All you say is true but at the same time Wilder needs at least another 3 players or so and has already said that the lack of movement of the players on the list can restrict his rebuild. Maybe the McFadzean purchase suffered in that scenario.

I've suggested before that there are phases to his rebuild. Phase 1 spending from the savings on 10 salaries of released players. Phase 2 spending the savings on salaries of transfer listed players when they've left. Phase 3 spending the salaries and transfer fees of the sales of retained players should any be sold.

In amongst all that there has to be a reduction in the wage bill as compared to the recent past (£6m?!)

Let's imagine all the transfer listed players move on with little cost/ subsidy needed from United. Let's imagine we get £2m for Lewin and £3m for Adams.

Wilder would have loads of cash to rebuild the squad completely and have cash in the bank ready for the JTW and would be able to do the job and save some budget for the Championship too!

Without a reasonable budget, without any departures of transfer listed players, without any player sales of our bright prospects we might well be falling between two stools and making do with a hotch-potch of players and inadequate cover in a couple of areas, midfield and defence.

The thing is, Everton aren't buying him based on his current ability, they are buying him based on his potential and whilst he may not be worth £1,000,000 right now, he could be worth 40x that much in 2-3 years to come at Everton.

Its important that if we do sell him, we put a high sell on fee into the deal. Look at Southampton with Bale for arguments sake.

I sense that Everton will have offered nowhere near £1m for starters, might be wrong.

Whatever he goes for, we must insist on a sell-on clause.

They'll come back with a 2-3m offer. McCabe will have pound signs in his eyes and accept :D

To be fair, as much as I want us to keep Dom and see how he develops, £2-3million would be very difficult to turn down for such an unproven player. Everybody has a price. Also, Barney tells us he’s better than young Dom and I’m pretty sure he’s a free agent so could be good business.

And of course he'll suddenly become a wonder kid in some people's eyes.

My stance won't change though that from what I've seen of him I really don't rate him with any potential to make it, even at league one level and for that reason would have taken the cash and spent it on someone like Leon Clark.

Without knowing all the financial ins and outs at the club, it’s very difficult to say what is a good deal. If we can afford to go out and sign say Leon Clarke as well as a Left winger, another centre half, another central midfielder and a GK without needing to sell Dom, then it’d be great to keep him and see what he can develop into. However, if such a sale is the difference between getting the players we need and not, it could be the way to go.

I feel for Wilson who got shafted by Ched
but the others disappointed

And then had his top scorer sold in January (having already offloaded the likes of Williamson, Lowton, Quinn, Simmonsen etc.) to be replaced with Jonathan Forte the following season and then sacked for being 4th.

£1m for what is likely to be our 5th choice (behind Sharp, Adams, Done, new target man) striker in league 1.
Unless the reason it is being rejected is something more sinister such as CW expects Adams and/or Done to go....

Or maybe Wilder is planning on using him as a midfielder which he has been for most of his youth?

A growth spurt motivated the shift to centre forward but there’s no saying what position will be his best in the long run.

If Everton can justify giving the Dingles £2m for Mason Holgate, then that should be the opening bid for DCL

Just playing devil’s advocate here but wasn’t Holgate a first team regular for the dingles though? DCL couldn’t hold down a place in League 2 last season.
