Ok so many people are in agreement that we really need a player wjho can play the duffy role. (AMC false 9 even... play in the hole etc etc etc)

Woodburn has not worked out so we need a replacement in Jan..........

Who... could we realistically target to bring in from Jan?

Our recent Jan window attempts have been good on signings but poor on effect and results.... Could this sway the directors minds in releasing extra funds??

Is there anyone we could target in europe??

Inspiration time!!!

We ought to look to Spain or somewhere in Europe. Duffy is 1 in a million. You don’t see many at our level with such excellent close control and technique as Duffy.

It wouldn’t be at all realistic but I’d love to see someone like Jota play that roll in our team. He has similarities with Duffy with brilliant technique and can pick a pass. He would create an absolute fuck ton of opportunities in our team with the way we play... hence me thinking we ought to have a crack at finding our own as realistically players as talented as Duffy only younger set you back 10 million these days.

It's as welcome as a replacement bus service, isn't it?
Chuffin replacement buses have caused me to ditch my plans to go to Wigan on New Years Day.

Normally there's a direct train from the bottom of my garden to Wigan, but not that day

Taylor looked ok for Rotherham against us, had a bit of pace and liked to run with the ball. Only time i can remember seeing him play though so might just have been up for that game.
Tin hat on now.
I would also take a look a Smith from Rotherham. I know he's had alot of clubs and never really be prolific or ever done it in the Championship(only for Rotherham this season) but he is a big physical Striker something i think we lack.
Given how many crosses we put in the box he might be a success and might be worth the gamble.
Both players would probably be achievable no disrespect to Rotherham.
While they are not ideal i feel both would make us a little bit stronger and are more realistic than Defoe, Carroll and Assombalonga.

What about looking down.

Peterborough for example.

Marcus Maddison can play wide or number 10, officially one of the most creative players in England over the last few years.

Siriki Dembele there number 10, plays on the wing but apparently can play up front or in the number 10 role, 5 goals 5 assists.

If you sign either i shall take a fee for my help lol

We looked down for midfielders last Jan, Evans was OK, Holmes did alright once then was rarely seen again, Leonard developed a reputation as the best right-sided central defender backup to ever grace a Championship bench as he was so ineffective in midfield.

Not wanting to preempt the next podcast ep from Beans but I’m pretty sure there will be some analytically-based scouting on possible Duffy-role options in one of the upcoming weeks.

It’s a role I’d be surprised if we can find someone to fit seamlessly into it. I’ve mentioned before that it’s not a role Duffy, previously a winger, had really done before Wilder placed him there. Some midfielders might be able to do it – but we’ve tried Carruthers, Brooks, Holmes, Woodburn and McGoldrick in the role and the only one that has come close to looking anything like Duffy in it is McGoldrick. It simply isn’t a simple role to recruit for. In contrast, I think pretty much any type of striker would get opportunities to score in this team if they’re any good – which is why I think we’d be better off investing time/resources into that area over getting someone to compete with Duffy.

I wouldn’t mind seeing this Duffy fella on the pitch a bit longer than he has “averaged” thus far.

I reckon there might be a player in there. Somewhere ;)

Play Fleck there. & Norwood & Coutts behind hm. There you go. Problem solved.

The must be a point where Brentford realise they are going to have a ‘meh’ type season.

You could make a case in the front three for Maupay or Watkins. Not seen enough of Canos to throw him in there too.

Given they only got about 5 or 6 for Ryan Woods a decent bid may tempt them if going nowhere and the player pushes for a move.

Either would be a good investment even for a club record and both are the right age.

Maupay is being linked to the Prem - £12m+ was the last figure i saw.

Agree with CJay about Sikiri Dembele - looks very talented.

Alan Judge at Brentford could be worth a look at.

Very highly rated when he was playing the no.10 roles in the last couple of seasons until he was injured earlier in the year. Back from injury now and by all reports, Brentford's new manager doesn't want him playing the no.10 role.

We've not done too badly with our last couple of signings from Brentford either!
