It is correct as Polish pronounce their j’s with a y sound.

I agree though, I’d find it odd to start saying it correct after 20 years of pronouncing it with a hard J sound.
I had a mate at school called Paul Krzok he explained it’s pronounced Shock, that satisfied my dyslexia

Killgannon is the daddy of the mispronunciation. There is absolutely no excuse for adding an N to his name let alone two.

That's just ignorance of how the name is spelled. Spelt incorrectly but pronounced perfectly!

Surely Laurens ten Heuvel has the highest number of different pronunciations?!?! Each name alone has it's own possible variations!

CONFIRMED - Panchero has two accounts on here.

I'll go one further... does anyone even know how to pronounce my username? 😝

I once briefly worked with a bloke who said he was a good mate of Steve (and obviously knew Phil). I had no reason to disbelieve him (his face just lit up when I said I was a Blade) and he reckoned the family pronounced it ‘Yajelka’.
I used to know a bloke who’s family’s original surname was something like Kznztski but when his dad came to England he just changed it to ‘Kay’.

I saw him once in Greece . Or it might have been Grease .

Lys should be pronounced Lee (as in fleur de lys) not “Leece” but no one will get it right (see also Nade not “Narday”).

Well I haven’t even been pronouncing Fleur de Lys right, despite knowing what it means and it’s relevance to heraldry. What a twat.

Jags pronounces it Ya-jelka but there's no way that's happening.

We’ve been calling him Jags since he first arrived here anyway.

Not even sure commentators bother to say Ya-jelka.

Think Jags actually pronounces it yag-eelka, not yaggy-elka, which makes sense (depending on what part of Poland his family originate.)

The city of Kiev, which we pronounce kee-ev, local Ukranians pronounce Keev.

As most of Eastern Ukraine was originally Western Poland (until world war two), maybe the family line of Jags is from that region?
What if it’s spelled Kyiv?

But it isn’t spelled Jagyilka...

That's fine, I can only tell you what the locals I know call Kiev, and what Jags once said was how they pronounced his family name (on Calendar or something like that, donkey's years ago).

I think the problem is you introduced Ukraine and Kiev which is actually spelt Київ

Kiev or Kyiv are just romanised versions of that.

Fuck me dead.

What next ?

Blades players names that rhyme ?

Acronyms ?

Riveting stuff 😀.
