Is it just me, or does everyone think its rubbish?
I'm in my 60's now and live around 70 miles from BDTBL.
So the only way I can listen to matches at home or when I'm abroad is using BP.
I am lucky to have a holiday home in Madeira, and have had to take over a laptop because it doesn't work on an Ipad. I mean FFS whether you like apple or not they are all over the place, its not beyond the wit of man to design an app that works with Ipad/Iphones. Furthermore the footage is awful quality and the live broadcasts frequently drop.
The commentators sound like amateurs and it takes ages to update scores/league positions live. Now I know its cheap, but they seem to have a franchise with most clubs so must make a mint.
Anyway I'm getting fed up with my Iphone, does it work with Android?
Rant Over. :)

I've just been on a big trip and had to rely on Flashscores together with S24SU updates. I tried to ignore Shoutbox after one comedian posted Yeeeesssss, Get in!!!!! when we hadn't scored. Not funny when you're up in the middle of the night on tenterhooks and it's 0-0 half way through the second half ( at Bradford).

I gave up on BladesPlayer long ago.

BBC do a text commentary but it's limited and delayed. Their live scores go haywire if you keep switching to other sites, as you do.

I must say it's remarkable what a small world it's become when you can keep a check real time from some very remote places, but it's also really stressful following without commentary. That 97th minute goal at home to Orient was a real sickener but it took so long to come through, probably ten minutes after all the other results, but we just knew anyway didn't we, United all over. Hard to get back to sleep sometimes even at 3 in the morning. I'd like to say it's good to be back but I've just watched the last three home games!!

Think it was Swiss who pointed us in the direction of the Football League official app in the Apple App store, which you can log into with your Blades Player login and get commentaries and highlights, I've not got an ipad but it works well on iphone.

Commentaries are another matter, guess it's a Radio Sheffield / BDTBL issue as it does keep dropping and we get transferred to another commentary, really not acceptable for a paid for service.

Like that works. Half the time it comes up with the livery of your team and a commentary from the pigs.

Forgot to say are there any alternatives to BP?

There are no legal alternatives, but fans put amateur broadcasts the radio sheff commentary online for all games in chat rooms. The highlights are always on You Tube.

I used to be a member of Blades Player, but only used it for the commentaries, and thought the monthy fee was a bit steep to basically listen to Radio Sheffield five or six times a month. But now I think they put the full 90 mins of the games online a couple of days after they take place. It's probably worth it for that. If they were ever to put all the games on live I'd join again in an instant, and would be happy to pay a lot more. Doubt this will happen anytime soon though.

When I was a member I found that paying by PayPal was the best way - it means you can cancel your subscription instantly, and don't have to commit for six months or whatever.

No doesn't work on android, though they keep saying they are going to sort it. I have just about had enough of it. Tuesday night it kept going off and is always behind anyway. Shocking service. If I am listening to a game, I also like to see the S2 shoutbox so often you know the score before it happens on BP. NGE

It's the nature of Internet commentary and streams that they always lag a bit behind the live action.

Unless of course you follow our twitter, in which case, people continually tell us we're quicker than Sky Sports, BBC etc :)

If enough people paid subs to cover the costs, it'd be easy to sort in terms of audio/video... except for I can't do it legally :)

Strictly speaking, our twitter coverage is against ground regulations and multiple licensing agreements.

Certainly is quicker. Its quicker than BP too because of the time lag on it - I see a tweet from you guys before I hear that we've conceded again. Of course BP would say that you are only psychic and their's is real time ( in which case do you know this weeks lottery numbers? :p). Invaluable the tweets are and the video's are more often better than the official ones. Thanks guys.

Find a friendly person in Sheffield who has a Radio to get RS and a laptop that has webcam/microphone and speakers (most have them these days)

Connect a Skype session in Madeira on your laptop to this person in Sheffield and pick up the commentary from the radio.

Not too familiar with Skype but can't see why in theory why it shouldn't work - bit heath robinson but may work. You can always practice in the uk as the only requirement is an internet connection.

Play the commentary on the wireless and record it on a reel-to-reel tape recorder. Following the game, unwind the spool and send it first class to Madeira.

I use BP all the time, yes there are problems some time but for the majority it works and we get the video stream within a couple of days - just like being there but I know the score. Cannot compare with going to games but it keeps me in touch with players etc, but for all that without this site and all Foxy's tweets on everything I would not feel as close to the Blades as I do for somebody a few thousand kilometers away.

I was in Spain last September in a bar following Foxy's tweets when we got a penalty late on, which Porter took and scored. A couple of tables down were two lads, one of whom was on an iPad with head phones on. Four minutes later one said, we've got a pen. There was then a loud cheer. We obviously introduced ourselves as fellow Blades. Yep BladesPlayer way behind as usual.

I dont like BP as much as the next guy, but if you dont follow twatter and the shoutbox whilst listening, the lag aint an issue ;)

Obviously, but then you miss all the fun with jimmy, pomppey and judge ;)

The Blades Player iphone App is good for both streaming commentary and highlights . The website is a clunky mess designed by an 8-year old with ADD.
Looks like 80% of FL clubs use the same format. My guess is someone at the Football League takes a slice of the revenues.

Yes , football league app works on both iPad and iPhone. You can access bladesplayer commentary and highlights etc on there .

Because some of us are not quite up to speed with everything. I'd just like a bit of an update. Can you get Blades Player abroad with live commentary? I miss this weeks game but want to listen. What is now the best way as this thread is a couple of years old. I have an android phone by the way.

Yes, you can hear the commentary abroad. I use everytime Im on holiday.

I went to Jamaica In September16 and decided to sign up for Bladesplayer solely to enable me to listen to match commentaries whilst I was abroad. Every match, home and away, has live commentary available via the internet.

I did plan to cancel when the month was up
But I've enjoyed the videos of pre and post match interviews and match action etc more than I thought.
I've also recently been away from home and phone internet radio apps don't allow you to listen to match day commentaries. So listened to Bladesplayer commentaries instead using my Iphone.

Still not got round to cancelling it yet because im currently enthusiastic about everything SU related
If we start slipping down the table then I'll likely cancel the monthly subscription.

Thanks fellas. I did not know if it was blocked abroad like the BBC for some reason? I may have listened before abroad but I'd got into my head it was because I'd used some floating IP address or something that does not allow sites to know where you are. I stumble round these things and get there eventually but then forget how I did it.

Weirdly enough on odd occasions when I'm in China I'm able to find video feeds from CCTV cameras at the Lane. Where you may be able to see glimpses of the pitch. Unfortunately the sites tend to be in Mandarin which means a lot of buggering about trying to work out what stuff means. It is by no means a solution to anyone's exiled Blade problems but next time I find one I shall post a link. China with its strict no google facebook twitter etc internet policies means it's usually turn my VPN on and follow the updates on S24SU twitter on a frankly dial up speed internet connection.

I was laid in bed two years ago in Los Angeles listening to our 3pm kick off, was 7am there I think. One of the few matches we managed to score 3 goals in and was doing a little dance as we scored and trying not to wake the wife and kids. Definitley worth it for times like those.

There are definitely some amateurs who just have a microphone hooked up and broadcast via a 'tiny' app/chat room
