Anyone else re-subscribed recently?

My sub is due to run out in the next few days so they've kindly sent me a special offer (£10 off) by email but when I click thorugh to sign up, they want to get me on a "recurring until cancelled" deal at the non-discounted price for future years. There is no option not to have a recurring deal, which I think is extremely poor and a marketing scam.

Anyone managed to get around this?

I'm guessing there wont be a "cancelled" option either.....

Its probably what Killa thought as well

This is a particular bugbear of mine. The connection has got MUCH WORSE since they rebranded it as Blades Player. It's OK if you have a decent Internet connection, but if you have a low bandwidth connection it cuts out so frequently that it is unlistenable.

There is a low bandwidth option but that is no better. Last week the low bandwidth option was not even broadcasting the Blades game. It was broadcasting "Sky Poker".

What makes it doubly annoying is the uncredited "quote" from a fan who, it implied, has got in touch with them to gush over how wonderful it is. What bollocks.

The 10p a day thing is misleading as well. Basically you are paying to listen to four or five matches a month.

I have to agree with you.Blades player is not a patch on Blades world, certainly not on my broadband.
I could not even get it on internet explorer on my desk top, had to use Firefox, but runs on IE on my lap top.
Far to many breaks in transmission.Very poor.

Oh, good. I thought it was me. My new laptop is running Vista and I got it about the same time Blades Player came into being . . . and the quality took a dive. There were occasional problems before, but they have more than doubled with the new 'improved' version.

Very frustrating.

As to the subscription; I'm sorry I can't help - I have a recurring subscription (for which I wish I could get some quality broadcasts!)

On the other hand, it wasn't possible to use Firefox with Blades Player. You were tied into a Microsoft monopoly that caused me numberous problems, and even when I got access (on an excellent connection) the quality was only average, had a tendency to drop out, and occasionally they streamed the wrong content. Admittedly this was two years ago - perhaps it improved last year.

I haven't resubscribed because they stopped taking Maestro, and I've no interest in buying something that's going out of its way to make things difficult for me.

I looked for a cancellation policy but couldn't find one, so have asked them to send me one...

Its a fookin disgrace

Mine seems fine. However the highlights are on Saturday nights now. I assume there is no other way to listen to the match?

There's an 'unsubscribe' button in your account details. I used it on saturday when I kept getting error messages trying to get the commentary, and 'customer services' wouldn't reply to emails (they still haven't 3 days on although my sub doesn't run out for another month).

Blades Player, and all the other clubs sites that use the same 'service provider' are a pile of steaming wank.

But it is the only way for someone like me, who does not live in Sheffield to hear live commentary of the matches when I can't make it up to the Lane, so we are being held at ransom.

I did find a sure fire way of getting their attention though - subscribe and then cancel the direct debit instruction once it appears on your online banking account. That gets you a free month out of them at least.

The overwhelming evidence is that it's cack - the quality of service is far worse than it was. I plan to cancel if the match is unlistenable today.

But according to the SUFC marketing department, fans have been flooding them with compliments about what a "vast improvement" it is.

Strange world we live in.
