Going through some old TV footage on YouTube because that's how I roll on Christmas Eve and came across this little feature on The Blades. Comes in the 2nd half of the show

Also worth watching at 23 minutes to see a referee headbutt a player

Eureka! You have found the footage (16 min 07 secs) for our 6th and 7th goal in the 7-0 win against Ipswich in November 1971. Woody scoring his 3rd and 4th goal of the match. WalthamstowBlade please add them for your 1971-72 video! MobileBlade , please add them to the Woody tribute video. Thanks to Roygbiv

Glad it's not just me! I have an addiction to watching those old Saint and Greavsie shows. Seen all of them on YT. I don't know why ITV can't run them again like the BBC do now with 80s reruns of TOTP. Start at the beginning of a season and show one every week.

Well done Roy. You've brought us great news. A miracle delivered by a Saint.

Fantastic work, Roy. I never thought I’d see that Woody goal again, the one that completed his hat-trick. I was on the Kop and right behind it as he hit it first time and smashed it in. The best goal of the game and so typical of him. And it’s great to see Trevor Hockey’s passing ability showcased in the build-up to both goals. He wasn’t just a ball winner.

One thing’s for sure: I won’t get a better present this Christmas.

Thanks Roy - brought back a lot of memories that and disproved the myth that you have more days off than Father Christmas.;)

I remember that match well, it was pissing down. Great performance,

Great find Roy, I was on the kop for that Ipswich 7-0 match, distant memories now, Woody got 4 and Woody and Currie had this routine where one would chip a corner to the edge of the box for the other to volley in, might have been one of em, vaguely remember a diving header also, both at BL end but might be mistaken. There was that Bassett era bbc documentary around the same time, Simon the shrink and zone man etc, might have some old VHS tapes in the loft.

Bassett era followed by the Harris era still easily beat the current era in my view. In the Bassett era the team and fans were fearless and a small bunch of us London / southern blades followed em around the country. Lots of attacking intent and efforts on goal with the fans loud and right behind em. Something to be proud of with friends and work colleagues, yeah we've got no money but we'll turn up and give any opposition a fright and something to remember and show the great character of Sheffield.

None of this current timid and toothless endless possession trying to score a perfect tap in from 2 yards and nervous fans too scared to sing and support and turning BL into a library. Once proud days. UTB

Unfashionable though it may be, that direct, high energy style of play really did get the crowd going. We were technically less good than almost every team we played, and we still came out on top.

I think that the fact that the style of play was sneered at by some of the pundits and by other clubs, helped with the sense of unity amongst players and fans. There was a real ‘no-one likes us, we don’t care’ attitude. To me (and I think this is just to do with the time I grew up) that gritty defiance felt very ‘Sheffield’.

These days, lauded for our style of play, we bask in the love of Sky Sports, opposition fans and the plaudits of pundits - and I think I preferred it when everyone hated us.

Am I right in remembering Badger scoring from range in that game?
Yes, the 4th goal at the Kop End, keeper Sivell should have saved it but pushed the shot into the roof of the net.

Watched the highlights of the match on YTV in the next day (my family always had b & w tv until June 1974) and I remember Badger's goal on tv looked blurry. Years later I wrote to YTV asking them to produce a video of Blades goals since 1968 and they did. The videos got sold very quickly in the Blades club shop. I asked YTV why they didnt include the 7 goals against Ipswich in the 1968-1981 video. They replied saying that the footage had poor quality. The first half highlights were in colour but the floodlights affected the picture quality so the second half highlights were in black and white. I hadnt realised it at the time when I was watching the highlights on YTV in the day after the Ipswich game.

No, his first goal was a low shot from outside the penalty box, his second was a penalty.
The diving header was his 2nd goal of his hat trick against Southampton in December 1973 (Furphy's first home game as our manager)

Cheers Roy, I've also watched countless Saint and Greavsie videos but hadn't seen this. You don't get football programmes as good as Saint and Greavsie anymore. Saints laugh and Greavie's humour were worth watching alone. Personally much prefer Saint and Greavie to SoccerAM.

As for United, we certainly are still talking about Deane and Agana!

Cheers Roy brings memories back, was when I became addicted think I was about 9, old saint and greavsie quality thank you :D

Two things:

1. Saint and Greavsie = pair of cunts. IStJ was pulled over by the cops once and tried the old 'don't you know who I am?' shit. Unfortunately one of the coppers was an Everton fan, so he did know who he was. Greavsie - great footballer in his time but yesterday's Paul Merson as a presenter for me.

2. Harry B = as said above. A blue, white and black shell suit whilst sat in the manager's chair at BDTBL? Spells it all out for me when he once very mistakenly said that both Sheffield clubs should merge.

Apart from that, ace nostalgia, as ever.

Jimmy Greaves is the greatest British goalscorer that has ever lived. He isn't anybodies yesterday man. He has no equal.

Ho-hum. Try reading what I put.

That okay?

Don Valley - Gone
Eagles - Not far off
Hillsborough - Looks exactly as it does now
John Gannon's hair - wow.

Saint and Greavsie = pair of cunts.

Aw. Did that offend Bert?

Okay. I'll clarify. Saint and Greavsie = pair of overpaid cunts. Dragged into the old ITV network studios to periodically wax lyrical and talk nonsense about football and spin yarns and 'bants' like the geriatric old duffers they were. Sum total = fuck all. Bit like Paul Merson these days, in particular Greavsie.

Just to clarify further = Jimmy Greaves, of his time, devastating footballer of mercurial talent. So we agree on that.

Hope this helps too. I know you have snags understanding stuff, Bert. Happy to assist where needed.

Greavsie had a stunning 422 goals in 602 appearances.
Brian Clough could well have bettered that had his career not been cut short through injury. His 251 goals in 274 games is fucking incredible.

Yup. Ace on the pitch. Shambling twerp on camera.
