Sheffield United: John Fleck

Chris Wilder's innovative approach of encouraging his centre-backs to overlap and put crosses into the box is sure to capture plenty of attention following Sheffield United's return to the Premier League. The roles of Jack O'Connell and Chris Basham, the outside defenders in Wilder's back three, have already received focus, but Fleck is crucial to the system too.
The central midfielder contributes to both the attacking and defensive phases of play, and he also takes a mean set-piece. Fleck played 45 of 46 league games last term and is likely to be ever-present whenever fit this season.

He’s overrated according to some of our fans.

I’ve said it many times before and I’ll say it again, some of our fans will only appreciate what John Fleck does when he eventually leaves.

A lovely player with a great footballing brain.

Most of our fans don't know how good and important he is so I assume the majority of outsiders have never heard of him.
Some of ours fans don’t appreciate genuine quality when they see it. They’d rather big up players that aren’t fit to lace his boots

I love Fleck.I just think he is not seen as a flashy type and unfortunately that is the type that most fans like nowadays.

He does his job and does it well.

Fleck does the role he does with little fanfare and it’s to his credit that he just gets on with his job. He allows others to excel, and to our team you can’t put a price on him.

Can I see a bigger club coming in for him? No, in all honesty I can’t because he doesn’t do the fancy stuff week in week out.
But for his part in Wilders team so far and his goal at the sty he’s put himself firmly in the frame as being one of the finest Midfield players to wear the Red and white in my lifetime. (Alongside Coutts and the fast approaching Norwood) Coutts on his game in those 12 months from league one to his injury will take some beating mind!

The only thing stopping him being world class...about 8 goals a season IMHO.

I think from the outside looking in it's Fleck.
But from the inside it's Sharp, first to be dropped from the front line and a raft of replacements purchased, said it before but his strengths are almost unmeasurable, timing and positioning.

And a bloody good ex footballer Uncle!

I think when people overlook him it's because they're disappointed not to see him high up the pitch and contributing to the attack. But if you watch Fleck move around the pitch he seamlessly moves around to cover centre half and full back positions. He has to read the game so well to avoid us having gaps across the pitch and when you consider how few goals we concede on the counter while throwing bodies forward it's not hard to imagine how well he must be doing his job.

He's one of those players where even when he's not having his best game he's the one that's allowing the rest of the team to play their best.

Kin hell keep him under the radar , we don't want anyone else to know about our best player , he's shit really

Poor mans John Lundstram 🤔

....I do miss that occasional bone crunching challenge that fleckeh used to throw in

My favourite player in the current squad. A class act.

JOHNNY FLECK DRINKS IRN BRU...

Another player ill be gutted to lose! Been a total breath of fresh air since he came to the midfield dross we had to put up with under the most recent previous managers!

He's crap he can't even get in the Scotland team.
Oh wait a minute I forgot they have that 50 million pound player Bannan from HMS Piss the League, by the way I heard HMS Piss the League had suffered engine failure yesterday, I hope she isn't drifting aimlessly.

The Scottish selectors can't see the unseen work in the same way that we do.
