I won 5 Shoot magazines from the 1970's and asked for Blades if possible.
Got a couple from 1972 with double page Blades v Everton action, also 1977-78 team group and other assorted bits n bobs.
Did anyone else used to get the Shoot magazine years ago?
I was more a Match Weekly fan. I used to like the player ratings for every game. They probably made it up looking back.

Yes......got about 100 in the loft !

I was interviewed in Shoot about my thoughts on gazza beating his wife. We were collared outside Portman Road before the play off 2nd leg
I was a Shoot man...or boy to be more accurate. Remember that second leg well...proper backs against the wall stuff. For some reason we had fans at both end of that side stand with Ipswich fans in the middle .

Pah. I was a Goal man.

Yeh my uncle had every single one delivered to his house during the 70's, so used to call round every now and then and read em.

Match Weekly came out in about 1980 ish, it seemed more modern than Shoot, so I used to buy that instead.

Only bought Shoot for the league ladders, Panini book and stickers and whenever United were in it, which wasn't that often.

I had the first ever Shoot. It had "Bobby Moore writes for you" and a questionnaire in which Terry Hennessey told us about his favourite pop group, meal etc. League ladders were free for the first 4 weeks, I think.

Does anyone remember Football Weekly News? It came out around 1980 and lasted a couple of years. It was really good and featured colour photos of 4th division sides, unfashionable Scottish teams and even, once, Shamrock Rovers.

That was one of the extra features that turned me towards Match instead of Shoot.
Shoot had basic stats where as Match Weekly gave player ratings for each and every match.
Also regsrds the "Focus on" player interview Match was more detailed.

In fact is Match was a newer, more detailed better version of Shoot.
Where as Shoot was the old stalwart and known as "the best".

I also still have some good condition copies of Charles Buchan Monthly from the late 50's
And dozens of them football magazines that you got for free inside football programmes during the early 70's.

I also got the first SHOOT and bought it every week - still have them all. Can't recall Football Weekly News but there was one called Football Weekly. Glossy magazine but not very many pages.

Also Charles Buchan's Football Monthly - they used to list junior teams from all over the country that you could write to (remember that) so as to arrange friendly matches. On our street we had a five a side team and we arranged to play a team in Intake.

Another one was Inside Football, printed as a newspaper rather than a magazine.

Then there were the football annuals. Topical Times. Charles Buchan's Soccer Gift Book.

The football league table ladders came out at the start of a season and you moved the teams up or down each Saturday evening once you'd run out to buy the Green 'Un.

Can't imagine kids doing that nowadays.

I had Shoot for many years, even when it merged with Goal.

You are the Ref was ace. Keegan's column was boring. Focus On was okay, but you could tell the subs were just making shit up.

I used to cover my school books with the centre team spreads. Liverpool was on my Chemistry book and my mate drew bus-stop cocks on all the players.

That's my Shoot/Goal story. The End.

Match was more up-to-date and glossier than Shoot. Match would have the stats from that weekend's matches whereas Shoot would have the previous weekend's. Still felt loyal towards Shoot though. "Who would you most like to meet?" "The Queen when she's handing me the FA Cup."

It's a good story. Don't worry.

I didn't know Goal and Shoot had merged. Once that happened everything would always be on a downward spiral. When Tiger merged with Jag it was TIGER AND JAG for a while; then it became TIGER and Jag, and eventually TIGER incorporating Jag.

Yeah, Shoot was 'incorporating Goal' for about a year.

I remember Shoot doing a piece about the Sabella signing and Rattin's involvement, other than that I don't remember us getting much of a look-in (a vastly superior publication).

The Celtic full-back Danny McGrain used to have a column which was the first time I realised that many Scottish people really, really didn't like the English.

Yes I got Shoot every week for years.
I recall a comparison article between Alan Woodwardand Tommy Hutchinson of Coventry City.
