... but he didn't do as much damage as clough did both had there contracts terminated early which costs money (and in cloughs case with his staff that must have cost a lot of money) This by a club lacking ambition? ! !.

No, a club without the first clue about attracting a decent manager or business nous. Several huge payouts for failure and nepotism?

In junior school, my teacher marked my English work and wrote 'More paras needed' - so I drew some stick men parachuting out of a plane in the margin. I got told off about it but he was chuckling as he admonished me and did admit that it made him laugh when he saw it.

Reminds me of when some teacher in geography was trying to teach us about the Beaufort Scale.

"Gale Force XXX is when telegraph wires whistle."
I asked "What do they whistle?"

Got me the cane, that.

The same teacher, for homework, told us to go out and find seeds and nuts and sellotape them into our exercise books. I went to a greengrocers, bought a coconut and sellotaped that into my book.

He was too stunned to cane me.

I have thought again and we are in a worse position football wise now than we were when McCabe took over.
We have lost the ground, training ground and hotel to him.

pardon

how can we lose these assetts to him , he bought them when took over the club

I dont get how we could lose these to him when he owned them already

There's that much drivel on this site at the moment it's enough to make you weep.
All this talk of blades having no ambition, let's break into two parts, infrastructure and the football side of the club.
Since Mccabe became chairman we have had a torrid time on the pitch (highs and lows),structure wise we have come on leaps and bounds ,the ground is hardly recogniseable to the one previouse to Mccabes tenure (this is not a support Mccabe thread just laying down out a few facts),We have a fantastic training ground with the academy doing well (15th best in country . That's a fact),this costs a lot of money and for a league 1 team is a credit. The new pitches both at Bramall lane and shirecliffe have cost in the region of 2 million,All this by
a club with no ambition ? ! !
Don't make me laugh.
Now to the football side ( obviously this is the one that counts and it's all gone wrong under Mccabe).
A lot of money has gone into trying to get back to the premier league and then relegation to the 1 division
which is a nightmare for a club of our size (losses in this division are massive and unsustainable this is why Mccabe was willing to give away 50%of the club to bring in fresh money).Money has been spent since the prince came in but two false starts Weir and then clough has set the club back big time.Weir was a big mistake but he didn't do as much damage as clough did both had there contracts terminated early which costs money (and in cloughs case with his staff that must have cost a lot of money) This by a club lacking ambition? ! !.
I was a clough supporter but with hindsight I realise he wasted a lot of money on players who could have
been good enough, but were not and game changers (what we really needed) were never signed .
The waste of money and the player fallouts are in my opinion the reason he was sacked
Adkins comes in with the problem of a bloated squad which is not good enough for the job in hand,he had to review what he inherited and that has cost vital time and more importantly points. He obviously knows now what's needed but that takes time to put in place so why blast the bloke before he's had time to get it together.
With all this going on I don't get it that the club has no ambition! ! ! Think again! ! !

I couldn't particularly care less whether we have ambition in the boardroom or not. If we have or we don't it hasn't made a jot of difference and we're still 5 seasons later looking no more likely to get out of this league than we were when we got put into it (arguably a lot less likely).

This is a very simplistic outlook and I make no apologies for this, afterall it is not a game of space exploration, it is a game of kicking a ball around and to paraphrase one footballing visionary "keep it out one end and stick it in the other" . Therefore, the ONLY two tangible things that matters are a) the result in the next fixture and b) the league position. They are the only things that matters. We can have the best academy, the most approachable manager, best pies, highest wage bill, best mascot runner and most ambitious board in the world but if the results are crap, then I make no apologies for hammering them because patience is wafer thin on the ground.

Why oh why do some whingers keep going on and on and on about McCabe , stealing assetts

How on earth can he be stealing what he already owned
What do they think being the club owner means

If someone buys a house, would 10 years down the line would they go round accusing them of stealing the house deeds
no
so what is it that boggles their minds about the ownership of sheffield united

I have thought again and we are in a worse position football wise now than we were when McCabe took over.
We have lost the ground, training ground and hotel to him.
We have been continually lied to, I.e. Beatie flu, money invested back into the team etc.
We have to date this year received ~ £3 million which was not budgeted for, ( Murphy and old Trafford cup tie) yet have no signs of it being reinvested.
We are again being fed the same jam tomorrow story.
We have been loyal for too long on the same promises and I am worried that unless things change, I. E. McCabe leaves we will have no football club left.

A very disillusioned blade who in spite of receiving a free original share ticket next season will consider not going unless he sees signs of ambition and that does not include building new stands and hotels.
Lost the ground hotel etc to Km????

He paid for it all in the first place how can we have lost it ??

acknowledge that he owns the club through majority shareholding but the asset has been transferred from the club to one of the holding companies, he says to make it eAsier for the club, I say to enable him to lever control of the assett at a later date. But hey ho it's about opinions.
Either way his tenure has proven to be ineffective in terms of providing a football team of which I And countless other blades can be proud.
He would have more respect from me and I do not doubt others, if he did no take us for mugs, his there is no bigger blade than me attitude has never been proven. Some of the things I hear off site which will remain off site, make me wonder.

Great photos BTL, but where are we now and what do we have to look forward to?
What have we won?
Five and possibly six years stagnating in what is the third tier of English football, with virtually no assetts does not inspire me.

Our support and stadium are better than some in the Premiership and most in the championship, yet we wallow in the third tier and you and others are happy?

Ghandi,

Do you have memory issues.

Remember 3 years ago. Many doom and gloom Blades and pig fans predicted 14K gates.

Then remember 2 years ago, no ambition and many again said 14K gates.

Last year after Cloughs many again predicted 14K gates.

Do you know why we've maintained gates around 19,000 all those seasons?

It's because we've been bookies favourited for promotion. Why have we been bookies favourites I wonder?

It's because at the start of the season we have on paper the strongest squad and neutrals believe we have the resources to strengthen based on recent history.

As the OP says ambition hasn't been the issue. The problem has been players signed/ loaned and the managers inability to get the best from them.

Another issue had been added pressure from the heavy expectation and short term ism.
No I don't have memory issues thanks but you need to be aware you can only keep going to the well so many times before it runs dry.

W H F we gave totally different ideas of what constitutes jam if you think we have a good team to get out if this division yiu are a v v optimistic blade. Especially as you include Done in your list of three jam donuts, leaves a hell of a lot of stodge though

The point was we don't sign good, or at least highly rated, players as "jam today". We do.

Whether the squad is "today" full of world class players is a different issue.

Jam today? No. Jam tomorrow? No. Jam the other night? Yes.

I went to Darlington and followed us all over during that season which was the best I have experienced, we dominated the division and that is what I aspire to and expect us to do again in the third. Not unreasonable for a club of our stature surely ?
