Jay McEveley v David Beckham

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/2675975.stm

James McEveley may not yet be a household name but the 17-year-old has been an important player for Rovers this season.

The defender made his debut against Walsall in the Worthington Cup in November and has made the left-back spot his own.

McEveley excelled against Beckham at Old Trafford

Liverpool-born McEveley has since played at Goodison Park, Villa Park and Old Trafford as he continues his development.

The Worthington Cup semi-final first-leg tie with Manchester United pitted McEveley against David Beckham, a challenge he relished.

He also made a brilliant goal-line clearance to deny Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in injury time.

He is naturally a central defender but has taken his chance at left-back and has shown an excellent temperament as well as loads of ability.

BACK ROW: ?, Frank Worthington, ?, Mick Miller?, George Best, someone from Derby County?, ?,?

FRONT ROW: ? Denis Waterman, Tony Gubba?, Archie Gemmill, Chris Quinten, ?

Someone help me out.;)

Blade fan who won a raffle prize to play in the match (I think), Frank Worthington, Joe Elliott, Mick Miller, George Best, Roy McFarland, Allan Clarke, Geoff Hurst

FRONT ROW: Paul Heaton, Denis Waterman, Billy Bremner, Archie Gemmill, Chris Quinten, Bill McMurdo (George Best's agent in the 1980s)

And that folks is why we are right to be outraged at our current plight. I doubt whether Walsall or Burton Albion fans could put together a thread like this.

Great to see "The Lion of Hillsborough" featuring. Bert will be pleased!

Indeed he is, what happy memories D'J brings back. Banging in that goal right in front of the Unitedites at Hillsborough.

Do you also recall when he went on the pitch in his suit looking to smack the French Wolves player?

I vaguely remember it was a cheap, ghastly coloured suit but my mind may well be playing tricks.

With the likes of D'Jaffo and Santos in the side we were quite a "formidable" outfit in the early / mid Warnock days.

Rob Hulse puts one past Everton and USA keeper, Tim Howard, 2007

I remember that goal well – you can see in the background CKR, who just made Gary Naysmith next to him look average for the assist for Hulse. Should have won that one, but Kenny's uncharacteristic error gifted them a point. Beattie was had a bit of a stinker for Everton too as I recall.

This should be in the World Class Players Getting The Better Of Blades thread.
Seaman was never a world class player. He played for England for about 10 years too long, no manager dared drop him because he was a media sleb and was mates with Baddiel and skinner.
The save from Peschy and the save against Germany when we beat them 5-1 were the only decent things he did in his career. He specialised in letting stupid goals in. Don't forget it people!

It was Ludovic Pollet the Wolves defender

Who was in goal for Liverpool on the opening day of that season? When Hulse scored the header? (I think it was the first goal scored in the Premiership that season?)

Only last season.
