Afternoon fellow Blades

having attended the Brentford game and seen most of the Boro Game on Sky, would it be fair to suggest that we are far too open regards our wing back formation, more so away from home?

There were spells during the Brentford and Boro games where the gaps in the middle of the park were scary i appreciate we are finding our feet at Championship level and its no knee jerk reaction at this stage however do you feel a 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 formation against the better footballing sides away from home would make us more competitive? being a hypocrite here i hated the away games in the Prem where we played not to get beat however i really do not like to see us being out foot-balled the way we have been in spells during both these games

I hate to see us given the run around and our ball retention in some spells has been poor, like i said very early days and i really want the squad of last season given a chance however if say we are 10 games in and in trouble would it be too late to make the changes?

Width and pace....desperately needed....I can't recall seeing crosses wanged into the box for our strikers to attack....neither have we got an outlet that can catch teams effectively on the break.

Would love to see us play a 4-4-2 with pacy wingers and overlapping full backs running at the opposition and getting as many balls in the box as possible.......... but I would actually go 4-4-1-1....

Blackman

Baldock/Freeman
Bash
Stearman
JOC

Thomas/Baldock
Fleck
Coutts
Stevens

Brookes

Sharp/Evans/Clarke/Lavery

That way Fleck and Coutts sit a bit deeper allowing Brookes to roam in the No10 role.

I thought the same, it's quite ironic that if anything we're being too positive.

We all said our wingbacks are good going forward but they're not the greatest defenders. Lafferty is the best defensive fullback but seems poor bombing down the wing.

We also said our midfield is great with the ball but not so good without the ball. Duffy is fantastic on the ball but he lacks physical presence and he's not the best tackler. Sharp is great when you feed him chances but he's one of our most ineffective players when we can't set him up.

I'm sure Wilder is fully aware of our weaknesses. Think that's why he's after Leonard for a bit of defensive midfield bite. It's all a learning experience and I'm sure Wilder will sort it out.

I'm not sure we need to change formation just yet, wouldn't complain if we did, but still think it's a bit early.

We limited a good Middlesbrough side to only 2/3 chances, and they rarely got in behind us.

2nd half showed we can still play 3-5-2 as long as we take more care with the ball.

Although I totally disagree with the majority of this... the thing I find most offensive is how you've decided to write down the players in their positions. :)

What a strange comment, why on earth would that offend you? Do you get offended by everyone who writes down formations or has my formation suggestion offended you more than most?

It just the way it's listed... it looks lopsided the left back and left midfielder are the last on their respective lists and I want to swivel them into position... or want to place them and work left to right in a list... so end up in all kinds of a mess.

I would also add, I'm not really that offended by it. It was more it was messing with my head as reading the line up.
