Former (real life) united players who were legends on the various versions of CM/FM?

Simon Francis - I said this before on a thread about him, he was a complete legend on Championship Manager 4 (17 year old at Bradford at the time). He'd have 20 for half his stats in a couple of seasons.

Billy - remember selling him for a fortune (and regretting it) to Arsenal in one iteration of the game. Always been highly rated in CM/FM.

Glyn Hodges (CM93).

(you can play the original Championship Manager in your browser btw: https://archive.org/details/msdos_Championship_Manager_93-94_1993).

Any others?

Weird thing on FM2016 is that every time I've started a career managing the Blades, Sammon and Woolford have been fantastic, as has JCR.

Just started a career this morning by picking a random team, got fucking Scunthorpe :(

Haven't played in the year 2016 for a while (think I'm somewhere in the region of 2040 on my save), but remember JCR being a top player. Che becomes a quality player (easily good enough to be a top Championship player) if you play him regularly.

Yes Che usually becomes pretty good. Diego starts off ok if you play him but never really kicks on. A good early free signing (true to life with the Blades as you get fuck all to spend) is Kay Voser at full back.

Once you become a manager of a club it stops being 'real'. The programme just allocates which players will be good for you and which is partly based on 'reality' and partly just on their stats, with a random element and the formation you play.

As much as I enjoy it, I'd best be described as consistently inconsistent!

I was addicted to it for several years until I was able to pull my head out of my arse and wake up. It's a shit game really if you don't play it properly and properly means spending at least four hours every session and most of a day going through the player databases during close season to find those hidden gems like signing Huntelaar for the Blades when he was up and coming.

I must admit I don't play it properly. I "quick pick" for team selection, and let my coaching staff and scouts do all the fine detail stuff. A good game that I enjoy playing, but I really can't be arsed to go through all the stats stuff. The team that created it did an Ice Hockey one but it's pretty shite.

In FM 2008 being Sheffield United was the easiest gig in the game.

You had a team freshly relegated with top championship players like Kenny, Morgan, Kilgallon, Naysmith, Tonge & Webber

Add to that Billy Sharp (Who developed into a PL quality player) and Beattie who arguably already was a PL quality player.

It would have been easy without a transfer budget, but for some reason, you're gifted with £4m.

What a complete bellend Bryan Robson was.

ANY manager with his head screwed on would've got us promoted that season. Stoke went up on 78 points FFS.

Possibly the most important season of the last 20 years. Such a golden opportunity to get back into the PL and instead we fluffed it.

Was it Crabby's approach to FM that made you think of Robo? If he'd have added 'I get pissed then....' to 'I "quick pick" and then...' it would have been spot on.

If they added that option I'd immerse myself into the role, much like Laurence Olivier ;)
