DANNY Wilson today admitted he is ready to return to management as Sheffield United continue their search for a new boss.

The 51-year-old, who resigned as Swindon Town boss in March, is believed to be in the frame for the vacant post at Bramall Lane.

United are seeking their fifth manager in the space of 10 months following the departure of Micky Adams last week.

Wilson, who steered Barnsley into the top flight in 1997,told The Star: “It is nice to recharge the batteries but I am looking to the next challenge.”

The man who boasts another promotion on his CV with Hartlepool and led the Robins to the League One Play-off Final 12 months ago added: “As a manager, you are always looking to get back into football. It is in your blood.

Of the Blades vacancy, he said: “As far as I am concerned, it is pure speculation so until I hear anything different that is how I am going to treat it.”

Earlier this week, Wilson, who is on holiday until the end of the month, rejected claims he had received an approach regarding the managerial role at former club Barnsley, saying there had been “no contact”.

United have started interviewing candidates and plc chairman and major shareholder Kevin McCabe is expected to make a decision after the second leg of the FA Youth Cup Final showdown with Manchester United next week.

Roberto Di Matteo, Chris Hughton, Russell Slade, Chris Wilder and Peter Reid are the other main contenders for the United job.

No no no no no!!

Piggie and will always be a Piggie as far as I'm concerned. I don't want this man anywhere near BDTBL, unless it's when he's managing another club that we then proceed to slap all around our hallowed ground.

As Meatloaf used to sing.... you took the words right out of my mouth. We,l ignore the kissing

I prefer other candidates but I couldn't give a toss who he used to play for or manage! If he can do a good job then he'll have my backing.

Admittedly he wouldn't be top of my list, I'd prefer Di Matteo or Pembo, but I wouldn't be dead against Wilson. I'd have him above Peter Reid although that isn't much of a ringing endorsement.

I'd go for Di Matteo, but would take Robins as a consolation prize, none of the others are good enough in my opinion

The club must listen to the fans i dont want DANNY Wilson here but is a good manager and the man i want is Di Matteo or Mark Robins .

Wouldn't want him, his record at Swindon last season shouldn't make him a strong candidated, he has a good CV but so did Adams, why swap one manager who pretty much gets (got) a team relegated to another.

I seem to think the reason Mr McCabe got rid of Adams was because he didnt trust him with the funds hes supposedly making available which you could understand with the sheer trash Adams bought in. Fair enough he didnt have lots too spend but im sure there were better players out there on the loan market then that garbage

Given the way our recent managers have signed mostly crap you can partly understand his thinking.

One of the main attributes of a good manager is the ability to find players who will end up being worth more than they paid for them. If you don't have faith in the manager's ability to do this then you need to get a new manager, and then give him the funds to develop the team.

Any particular reason why?

Roberto DI Matteo is a winner and done well where ever he been and same applys to Mark Robins.Danny Wilson move may not plan out, because he was the manager of sheff wed and you know we hate the the sheff weds fans.

Ian Porterfield played for weds. and he was succesfull enough to win the blades two promotions in his term as manager. so dont write anyone off just because they used to snuffle around in the trough at s6.

Surely Danny Wilson has more achievements on his CV than Di Matteo?

Well I for one will not step foot inside Bramall Lane until he leaves if Wilson gets it. All the Pigs want him to get it which says it all for me

Wilson wouldn't inspire me or fill me with confidence, however we cannot knock him until he is given a chance. I would have rather kept Adams if we are bringing in someone along the lines of Wilson.

As with anyone with swfc connections, if they endure a bad run in the league, the big problem is, there would be no goodwill for them from the start. The crowd would easily turn on them than say someone with no S6 connections. Besides, Hill and Tisdale are the only two that should be on the shortlist.

Why do they always have to have a connection to wednesday or united? same with Megswine last time. I think whoever said it's a smokescreen so we'll be glad whoever gets it as long as it isn't the ex-piggie was dead on

Indeed, in fact probably negative goodwill. If we're not in the top 6 from 5 games in, there will be no holding back the piggie abuse he'd get. No new manager honeymoon like most get.

Although from a football perspective I don't have a massive problem with Wilson being appointed, for me like a lot have said, some harmony between the techniques of the academy and the first team would do a lot for how McCabe has said he wants to re-build. Main thing the new manager needs to do is be able to pick up 3-4 players over the off-season who can contribute immediately in the first team.

Come on..............it's Paul Ince. We all know it, just accept it.

The talk of Wilson doesn't go away i just wish the club bags Di Matteo because i hate roumours
