League career ended prematurely due to injury at the Lane:

GK Mel Rees
RB Ryan France
LB Les Tibbott
CB Paul McGrath
CB Brian Smith
MF Julian Winter
MF Martin Dickinson
MF John Ebbrell
MF Dane Whitehouse
MF Steve Paterson
CF David White

France and McGrath both had the i just issues before they arrived at BL.
I can't remember Mel being injured. I thought he played every game until the season following his debut against Liverpool.

Rees was injured against Leeds and missed the last game of 1992. Mervyn Day played v Wimbledon. He never played again for unrelated reasons of course. It's more accurate to say illness ended his career (and his life sadly).

You are right re France and McGrath, but they still retired due to injury while at the Lane so they rightly belong here. McGraths knee crumbled under him v QPR and that was that. I try not to think about France, one of the poster boys for 2007-11 transfer policy lunacy.

Morgs never come back from his knee injury. Only 32 when it happened.

Wasn't Brian Howard out for a while too?

And previous posts are correct. Both Andy Gorams were injured, but not at the same time.

Seen a couple of (dis)honourable mentions already... but the Alan Young/Ashley Ward attacking duo takes the biscuit (as in legs made of) for me....

Ashley Ward though, eh? Held the ball up, brought others into the game.

Fucking useless. Bought for a final payout.

Pre 1990

1. McAlister- broke his leg twice and wasnt the same when he covered for Jim Brown in 75-76
2. Steve Goulding - injury ended his career. Sadly took his own life in mid 1980s
3. Alan Ogden - heart trouble ended his career. Had a heart transplant about 20 years ago and lived for a few more years
4. Les Tibbott
5. Brian Smith
6. Dave Powell - Welsh International who didnt play again for us after the injury at QPR in March 1971
7. John McGeady - broke his leg when a teenager and then "disappeared"
8. Alan Whittle - failed medical despite appearing in squad photo
9. Steve Finnieston - we should have never sold Edwards
10. Alan Young- surprised that we got the fee we paid for him back.
11. Steve Paterson- Signed from Man U and a pre season injury ended his pro career

Derek Geary disappeared about the same time.
Edit: just checked season before Morgs (09/10) age 29.

Can some blade remember a giant - GIANT- centre half Dave Bassett brought in, think from non-league. I saw him around BDTBL but he got injured and retired before playing many games.
Tommo, liked him a lot. Furphy brought in Jim Brown and that's that.
Mel Rees. Sometimes thought he was the better of three keepers. Tragic.
Dane Whitehouse. Criminal to lose him.
Stretch Armstrong. Terrific, quality up and down the left. Unsworth  reckoned he could play for years and years with stretch in front of him.
