It's a small world. We all know that. But have you ever come across a Blades coincidence?

I was in Cheltenham yesterday visiting my father in his residential home - he is 91 now. I wanted to settle a bill so spoke to the home manager. He politely asked me where I had travelled from. Sheffield I said. I am from Sheffield too he said. First coincidence.
He said he was born in Hillsb....... but not to worry because he was a Blade. Second coincidence.

His parents had moved to Cheltenham. Number three.

Then, just as I was about to tell him my cousin was Trevor Hockey, he said that his uncle had played for United. Bob Booker. His dad had also briefly played.

We had a good chat about the current Blades side, but it was the chances that this Sheffield lad could possibly be the manager of my dad's residential home that made the biggest impression.

Over to you.

Met JOC's mum on a cruise ship when we both went to the bar to watch the scores coming through from Sunderland on 10/09/17

Nice one :)

I was also hoping you'd both had a dream that we'd won 3-0 on Sunday

That's awesome, I have to say I have not met any down south in 11 years, Hemel and Hertfordshire seems devoid of Blades, (This is the part where loads will pop up no doubt and disprove this!) met two Wednesday fans, one was to be fair was a mate from Sheffield who moved down here who incidentally as a Cousin who played for United in the form of Dane Whitehouse, got me a few signed bits over the years from him, but is now living in Asia my mate not Dane.

the other one I could not stand used to play football in caged pitches 5 a side and nearly always ended in heated flair of tempers and feet flying in.

Went to an Artic Monkeys gig before they got signed out in Dingle Ville. Stood at front and guy next to me at the gig sat behind me on the Kop.

It's Six degrees of separation. In the 2006-07 season in the PL, a new bloke was sat to my left in the South Stand. During the season, he missed a couple of games and, when he returned, I asked if he'd been away. 'Yes, I've been to Germany on business.' I asked whereabouts and he said 'I doubt if you'll have heard of it. Gelsenkirchen?' I told him that I saw the Brazil v Zaire game there in the 1974 WC.

He said he'd also been at that match. Long story short, I went to that WC in a minibus from Richmond college with ten others. He was the driver of that minibus and I'd never met him before or since...

Went to Varadero in Cuba years ago. Probably 2006. Got talking to some guy holidaying with his wife who was a blade. Came home and the next game, he's sat on the next table to me in Farm Road Club. He has sat on the next table to me in Farm Road club ever since*. Never noticed him before the holiday but always give a respectful nod in his direction each time i see him.

*Until last season, as we don't go in there anymore

Every year I've had a season ticket (2007-2015) we got worse every season.

As soon as I relinquished my season ticket, we won the league with 100 points and are now sitting in the play-offs in the league above.

I am the curse, not Kevin McCabe.

Fancy getting a season ticket at Wednesday or L**ds?

Could be the reason why Arsene Wenger is so reluctant to leave Arsenal. And Wolfsberg were so keen to get Wolfgang Wolf in as manager (thought they did sack him later).

If there was a player called Eddy Owlkiller, I have no doubt he'd be on our radar.

It could also be the reason that over the years, Wednesday have had many players with names that sound similar to the noises that pigs make. Wim Joink and Chris Brunt, for example. They also were looking to sign Chris Gunter at one point.

Another one was...

A few years ago, i was working away on my own in the far reaches of Wales. I was bored so thought i would have a wander to a pub to watch football - Man City were playing in Europe. Anyway, on the next table were two couples with mancunian accents cheering on "Citeh". Got talking to one of the blokes at the bar and he asked who i supported etc. Turned out it was Stephen Jordan's dad, who was then playing for Fleetwood. I ended up watching the match on their table and we walked back to hotel together (as they were in same hotel). Lovely couple and they were very complimentary of SUFC and the time that Jordan spent with us.

Bob Booker's nephew grew up a Blade in Hillsborough?

Am I to assume this is as a result of him marrying someone he met up here when playing for us?

And Bob's brother in law played for us too?

Sorry for the questions but genuinely didn't realise any of that.

Mwepu passed away a year or two ago

Your Uncle was my favourite Blades player of all time. What a fantastic character he was. The likes of which I never saw before or since.

I was living in Aberdeen in 1987 when I helped a colleague check into a local hotel. The girl at the desk had an unusually strong Sheffield accent. Turned out to be Ian Porterfield's daughter. She had acquired her accent from good Sheffield schooling when he was manager with us and Roverum.

Don't know if this qualifies. But when I was a teenager, Blades had an away match at Port Vale.

I got my AA road atlas out and looked for "Port Vale" in the index. No such place!

I was determined to point my Cortina in that direction and go to the game. But where in England was it?

I decided to phone directory enquiries and ask for the phone number of Port Vale FC and ask them where the fuck they were?

The operator goes...

"Directory enquiries for which town please?"

I say, "Port Vale".

He says, "Port Vale - do you mean Port Vale Football club?"

I say yes and explain that I'm wanting to phone them up and ask them where they are because I want to go and watch my team play them on Saturday.

He says, "Who's your team?" And I say "Sheffield United"

He then says, " that's my team as well! I'm a Blade! It's in the Potteries, in Burslem".

Job done!

(I think that was the game when Edwards scored a volley from about 30 yards out - thanks Directory enquiries!)

Cousin.

It's that legend who you don't like that is the Uncle. I think.

Anyone recall the Wolves defender de Wolf in the mid 1990s?

A couple of months back my wife had a home visit from a chiropodist. I told her she could cut her own fucking toenails instead of getting someone in.
'Not only that' I told her, 'There's something wrong with people who want to fuck about with someone else's feet'
I then asked her 'how much?' and was taken aback when i heard a muffled reply, 'twenty five pounds'. '
'Did he have a mask on?' I replied 'robbin' bastard'.
After his latest visit last week, my wife told me they had talked about football and she'd mentioned I was a Unitedite.
'I used to play for the Blades' he told her!
He played for us under Bassett and mentioned several other clubs he'd served before retiring from the game.
I won't mention his name to save any embarrassment, (I wouldn't want anyone to know I was a chiropodist, would you?),
plus I've accused him of being a robber!

All the above is totally true but some of it written with tongue firmly in cheek.

Apparently, if you go on to Google and type in "Where is", and that drop-down list appears with the most common things people have searched for starting with those words, "Where is Port Vale" is third or fourth on the list.

Strangest coincidence for me was in a university library when I was all the way up in Dundee. I was listening to the blades (not sure of the match, some time round the Evans trial) , headphones in of course, when we scored I forgot my surroundings and cheered. I realised that one of the other 3 people on my table was reacting similarly, turned out to be a blade from Rotherham. Weirdly the third person on the table turned out to be a Leeds fan, as she was the daughter of David Harvey. Needless to say very little work got done and very quickly moved to the union bar.

During that same season (also in Dundee) I'd had a bit of a session watching the derby, when I finally made my way to the take away, what song should I hear blaring out? Annie's song! Turned out to have nothing to do with football and was just a coincidence.

You went to the gents in a minibus with 10 others...? It takes all sorts...
