Any good blades blogs to read.
Wrote my first one last night about going to the crewe game. Short and sweet. I won't put a link as it will look like an advert.
Its this...
The cups have a special place in my heart. Everything from the balls being drawn out of the hat to the nervy last ten minutes when you need a goal to stay in the competition. Especially given that Sheffield United are my second team, I’d take a good cup run over a strong league finish every day of the week. The cup run last year culminating at Wembley was an unbelievable roller-coaster rider and this year’s league cup run still has the potential to surpass it.
It was with this in mind that I was happy that the blades only drew in the first round match against Crewe, forcing a replay in what I thought would be a bonus cheap game at Bramall Lane. Unfortunately the price decided on for tickets by the two clubs wasn't as cheap as was hoped for meaning I had to fork out a tenner for the privilege. However I managed to convince Eleanor to come again which was great and got seats right behind the home dugout.
Sitting so close to the manager meant we heard almost all of his instructions and refereeing complaints. At the start of the match he turned to the bench and said feistily ‘tonight is all about simple and early!’ An instruction which he felt wasn't heeded on too many occasions. The man sitting to our right was a friendly old man with his grandson whom he proudly said had been to Bramall Lane since he was 3 weeks old. As the program seller came round as usual shouting ‘two pound your match program’ instead of the usual three pounds, the old man who clearly didn't think much of the seller suggested that he may have had to attend evening classes to perfect the art of shouting the new price.
The match started brightly with the home side remaining comfortable in possession until Callum Saunders, son of blades favourite Dean Saunders was denied by a beautiful double save from Mark Howard. You’ll be lucky to see a better bit of goalkeeping all season. Flynn then scored when he tackled the Alex centre half in a goal mouth scramble. Although the game remained comfortable, Nigel Clough’s men didn't look like extending the lead until Flynn was put through in the second half. He collected the ball and finished into the bottom left hand corner. A relaxed last ten minutes, which the Crewe following didn't bother staying for, allowed for a couple of the younger kids to have a go. With 7 home games in the next 9 all I can say is ‘bring on the next one!’
