Great football ⚽

We would never have guessed what vet was to follow

Sabella - was there at BDTBL when he was introduced by Harry H . Saw him score his first goal (away at Preston I seem to recall) in fact contrary to some beliefs I created my user name Bell4 from his name

thanks again for the memories

Can you find anything from my first ever game - Utd v Bristol City - Sept 1970 , a fantastic comeback from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 😂

What a season to start a lifelong journey

yeah remember that game the lane was in shock when brizzle went 3 up great comeback though and kickstarted the promotion season

Great display on how to lose your marker at CF by Anderson. Mcb, Brewster and Burke should watch it.
BTW, worked with someone from Sunderland years later who was actually at that game. The coaches got escorted out of Sheffield, so they called in at Barnsley on the way back, to, in his words, 'Rip up some pubs and have a bit of fun'. Ended up with no windows in the coaches, and him hiding behind a bin outside the back of a pub. Dingleland was still full of miners in those days, and was about as tough a town as there was in England.....

Good game ( which I was at also )
Think one of our goals came 2nd in the goal of the month competition on Match of the day
If Anderson’s first goal the week before was at Stoke I was at that game as well

Won goal of the month and 2nd in goal of the season. His goal at Stoke was 3 weeks later

His first goal was the week before at home to Luton in a 1-1 draw… I think Bob Hatton scored Luton’s goal

Remember it well. Thought we were going to push on and have a good season after this. How wrong I was!

I was there at this match too. It was on Match of the Day later that day, we didn‘t appear on MOTD much so I was really excited about our team being shown and discussed but I fell asleep on the settee just before it came on and I woke up just as MOTD was finishing. Gutted ha ha

Remember that game. Probably the highlight of a shit season that ended in our first ever relegation to Division 3. Season started with such promise, after we spent a lot of money (by our standards) in the close season.

Remember the game well was full of optimism for that season we had bought Finneston and Sabella
I went on the pre season tour of Switzerland
We probably should have known what was coming from the first game of the season a 1-2 home to defeat to Orient if my memory serves me right

Yup Pedro 1-2 but at the time “ apparently “ it was a good sign because on one of our previous promotions we’d lost 1-2 on first game of the season to Orient
That worked out well pal dint it
🙄

What went wrong?.. We had high hopes, and some talent and flair with the likes of Sabella and Hamson plus other new signings.. I forgot about Harwood, looked decent on that showing.

Remember the game clearly.
Mackems brought loads and sung ' We love you Sunlan we do' for at least half an hour non stop first half.
At the tender age of 13 I'd never heard support like it.
always brought thousands to the lane like newcastle but unlike the barcodes cant remember em coming on the shoreham no doubt somebody will put me right on that one lol

May have been highlight of the league season but I'd have thought beating European Champions Liverpool in the League Cup was probably highlight of the season overall.

Yeah, Mitch on the right leaning in with his thumb up. I played against him one Sunday morning in the mid 80s at Wentworth Woodhouse, and the whole of their team (mostly Blades) turned up in an old ice cream van. I played CH and Mitch played CF. Moaned to the ref that I was the biggest, clumsiest twat he'd played against. Probably right. Spent 90 mins kicking shit out of each other, but shook hands as fellow Blades at the end. Good job, 'cos I didn't really fancy any 'afters' with him. Used to chat with him in The Sheaf a few times in the 90s/00s, but haven't seen him for a while now.
Went to Wrexham for a 4-0 night match defeat in the late 70s, and the cops took the boots off anyone wearing DMs. He was one of them. He had to watch in his socks. Then it started snowing..... (John Flood was our MOTM that night - that's how crap we were).
