Starts from 33 mins 40 seconds. I wasnt at the game because I was at my school 160 miles from home. Highlights shows that TC had a below par game.

Was this their only season in the top division? Think they were top after first 3 games .

We won with a Gary Jones goal. The 1-0 defeat was in February 1971
On our way up to the first then . Remember listening to the game on the radio as a 9’year old in front of a roaring coal fire - don’t think we lost another game bar Hull at home ?

Yes, our last away defeat until October

I remember one of the newspaper headlines after their great start was "COR-LISLE!".

I was at the game and can remember Carlisle's goal but not our two. I remember my dad saying, "You could hear a pin drop when McIlmoyle scored!"

I had my first season ticket (my dad took up an offer from a true gent who’s wife had just passed away so I had a season in the cherry street stand with him) and I vividly remember a drunk guy standing on the top step of the cherry st stand near the cop end shouting … Carlise … at the top of his voice for ages - can picture him now …

Whenever I hear their name I think of this moment

Cherry Street Stand, you mean the pavilion?

What stands out is how Brian Moore gives out names and addresses like nobodies business. Not content with “Jim from Guildford” we get house number and all!
I think in them days it was a major event to feature on TV. "Jim from Guildford" could be anyone. "Jim Smith from 63 Woodland Close, Guildford Surrey" made you a minor celebrity.

I've never heard of Gary Jones. After checking, he played just 3 games for us in a row, including this appearance and only goal. According to the complete record his previous club was Bolton and he was born in 1950. Apart from that, I can find no information.

Unfortunately Garry Jones died in 2016

He was on loan from Bolton (our first loan signing). Furphy decided not to keep in as he didnt think Gary fitted in well with the team.
