I remember Foulke he finished up playing Sunday league side who called themselves Playboys in the Regional Sunday League.

The side mainly consisted of old pros who ended up every Friday and Sunday night bolloxed in Josephines night club.
Foulke also used to run a successfull roofing firm.
He did indeed! Playboys were run by a kid called John Wragg I think (big Blades fan and mates with plenty of players from 70's & 80's, especially Kenworthy & MacPhail...lots of stories there!)
Team full of posers!

Rodney Marsh. George Best and Bobby Moore played for Fulham at BDTBL in Oct 76 which ended in a 1-1 draw. The only game Jimmy Johnstone played well for us. Woody fired in a left footed opener from outside the penalty box after selling a dummy to Bobby Moore. After half time John Mitchell equalised with a good goal which drew applause from the crowd. We beat Fulham 2-1 at BDTBL in Oct 77. George Best played but not Moore or Marsh. Tony Gale opened the scoring for Fulham. Just before half time Chico Hamilton equalised with a superb header from a Bobby Campbell cross. In the 2nd half Woody fired in the winner after a lay off from Campbell
Thanks S.B. distant memory's, but good un's,the amount of class players that graced our holy turf both friend and foe is amazing when you think about it and tot them up , bar the odd cup draw that won't be happening for a few seasons yet. Great post , and as always UTB.

Yes Wraggy did run them he was the secretary but the manager was Ted Bear who was name with the Wednesday firm in the 70s along with Vinnie Walters,Slacky,Colin Walters,Roy Elliot and a good few more same crew stood on the Shoreham early 70s trying to bait us whilst surrounded with coppers the cheeky twats!

My pleasure Dublin. Funny how things like that from 40 years ago come to mind, yet sometimes, I cant remember summat what happened yesterday!! :(

Marsh and Best did play together at Fulham in the mid 1970's and they also signed Bobby Moore too. I never saw us play Fulham at the Lane though, but it was often reported that Best and Marsh used to tackle each other to liven things up a bit.
I loved Besty but all those years on, whenever I see Marsh on the TV or his name is mentioned, two words spring to mind: Tom McAllister.
Thanks Blackheath , as I said on a previous post what a talented bunch a players we had , and are we ever likely to see players like that again in this day and age . Think all the good un's will get hoovered up after a couple a good games, be it friend or foe, most on here would have seen a awful lot of talented players and how far our great club { in our eye's} has fallen when we some of the players that can be on show at the lane , however it will never stop me following united and as always UTB. Know what you mean about the memory seems to happen when ever our lass wants things doing around the house. ;)

Jesus, some names from the past there! Ted Bear (AKA Bobbie Andrews when he did a stint as a comedian on the WMC club circuit, dead and gone now!). Ian Slack, not a bad kid despite being a pig, and Roy Elliott off the Wybourn, saw him the other week, still looks a mean twat :-)

Used to see Wraggy on a regular basis when his lad and mine played in the same team, Wraggy as ever, muscled in and ended up manager :-) heart always in right place though. Not sure if he still goes to Lane, but last time I saw him he was playing fuckin 'ell about us!

Didn't John Hope become a Scaffolder, I seem to remember reading in Shoot? I remember him as a great keeper and a bit of a character when he replaced Alan Hogkinson, but I was only about nine at the time so perhaps my assessments not to be relied upon. Then I used to stand on the railings at the front of the Kop behind the goal and I recall him regularly talking to people in the crowd. I once saw him peel and eat an Orange that someone had thrown him, we'll after he'd picked it up of course!

I think he had two sons, Chris and Richard who became professional footballers. I'm not sure if Chris Hope still plays?

My favourite performances by visiting keepers in this period were both in meaningless but highly enjoyable matches - the friendly against Dynamo Kiev mentioned earlier in the thread and Pat Jennings in an end of season match where we won 3-2, but Jennings seemed to stop about six more .

The midweek 3-2 win against Spurs was at the end of the 1972-73 season

Didnt Ted Bear get on Corrie as an extra ,Vinnie with one eye was a mean looking twat but sound in CJs , Slackys ok too. Used to see all these guys in the week and talk friendly as anything ,but weekends up west Street was just mad for a while.

Bear was an extra in Emmadale, Vinnie lost an eye in a rumble in a Blackpool boozer, still see Slacky up

All sound lads shame they follow the filth(Bears since passed away his lad does our joinery work)

Agree entirely mate, some players who we've signed in recent years simply havent been fit to lace the boots of the likes of TC, Woody, Salmons, Edwards, Deano etc,. I go mental at games when I think one of our players is being a passenger or taking the piss, especially with the money they get. Despite the state of the club and the league that we find ourselves in at the moment, i'll still follow United everywhere. UTB.

Correct Silent, Played with and against Foulkey and have bumped into him on occasions in later life. He was never signed on apprentice professional or full time pro forms despite appearing on a full playing staff photo around 1972. The Foulke family descendants lived on Erskine Road duriing my time in that area which may be of interest to Darren (but knowing him, he'll know this already:)).
Tom Meehan was from Barnsley and as United seemed to have a penchant for, not that tall for a keeper. (Hodgy, Barry Gordine, Jim Brown)
Found him in reserves teamsheets.
